7 inches is not too big but it is nice to have individual self contained savory dishes. I'm just going to butter the dishes and then place the crab cake in to bake instead of frying. These are lower and wider than I expected but still perfectly okay. I plan to try out the deviled crab recipe from Crossroads Cooking with these pieces.
