Book Description

HIDDEN is a paranormal adventure that spans the centuries from modern London to 19th century Paris and ancient Cappadocia.

Sixteen-year-old Madison Greene is in foster care until one day she inherits a fortune, she inherits a house, she inherits a cellar full of danger.

Eighteen-year-old Alexandre lives in 19th century Paris. On an archaeological expedition he discovers a lost underground city where his life changes forever.

For each of them, life is finally starting. Little do they know it is closer to ending. Something lies buried which should have been forgotten. A Pandora's Box that was meant to stay shut. But Madison and Alexandre have never been any good at following the rules. They are about to find everything they've ever desired and everything that could destroy them.

Falling in love has never been so dangerous.

5.0 out of 5 stars Byzantine Vampires March 27, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Vampires, an inheritance with a secret, archaeology, scary men in white coats : all classic ingredients in this upbeat retelling of the vampyr legend.

HIDDEN breaks with Transylvanian tradition by placing the vampires deep under the soil of Cappadocia where two archaeologists take their families excavating in 1881, triggering off a series of terrifying adventures.
In this timespill narrative, the lives of 19th century Alexandre and 21st century Maddy cross over in a tantalizing weave, rushing headlong towards an uncertain future.

Here is a book crammed with colour: Byzantine imagery, Victorian charm and a Thoroughly Modern Milly - that is, Maddy, an orphaned teenager in the 21st century who suddenly comes into an inheritance. She and her brother move into Marchwood House and begin exploring, only(as might be expected in a paranormal story) nothing is quite as it seems. An iron door in the cellar hides secrets over a hundred years old and through a series of chilling events, the story of the Cappadocian expedition is pieced together along with its impact on Maddy and Alexandre's lives.

The image of the vampire has haunted many cultures, both East and West, yet curiously there is little reference to them in Turkish folklore - although there is an interesting connection :Vlad Tepes, later Dracula, grew up during a period of semi-fealty to Turkey when his father paid tribute to the Sultan. Bloodthirsty reprisals illustrate most of Vlad's life in his efforts to free his country and he passed into legend as a hero to his own people, until Bram Stoker came across his name in a Whitby library book and spawned a literary genre that is flourishing healthily today.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best YA books I've EVER read! May 16, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Simply put, this is AWESOME!
From the very first page, I found it impossible to put this book down, even for a moment. I loved the combination of the past and the present intertwined with mystery and romance and downright spookiness!
I can't wait to read the sequel.
If you haven't bought yourself a copy of this book, then do it NOW. It's AWESOME!!
Hollywood so needs to make this into a movie!! Can you tell I'm excited, can you?? lol!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good book :) February 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This was a really great YA Paranormal Romance. It starts out a bit slow because the author is catching you up to how/why it all started so there is some past mixed with the present but the author does a great job. The paranormal part doesn't start right away (maybe halfway through the book?) but you can tell it creeps up on the paranormal aspect from the storyline and what's going on.... you know there's something there but you don't know what. When it finally happens you're like "Oh, that's where it was going." it makes perfect sense. Even without the paranormal elements in the first half of the book it still kept my attention with intrigue and surprises. I'm more of an adult paranormal romance girl but I can enjoy YA once in awhile and I really enjoyed this one by the author.

If you enjoy a bit of mystery, romance, intrigue, Paranormal give this book a try. I like how the vampires come into play...its not like normal vampire books where one guy swoons/bites one girl and converts her...no, its a bit more dark and mysterious than that. Give Shalini a try :)

3.0 out of 5 stars A simple read... OK. July 31, 2011
By Cindy
Format:Kindle Edition
I had heard about this book on a blog and it seemed like the type of novel I'd like, (even though I'm not a YA). Since Amazon had the Kindle version of this book for only $2.99, I got it. I have to say, it did NOT exactly live up to the hype.

Not to say it was a waste of time, or bad... it was just not that special. It read like a very simple fan fiction and had story elements that were awfully familiar... There is a bit of romance and Twilight fans will recognize the the line "You are my life now." Although there is other non-Twilight-like stuff going on too... These are more traditional vampires as they DO burn in the sun, but as in Daybreakers, let's say the sun is not totally destructive...

I found some things hard to believe... While accepting the premise that vampires exist, it was hard to believe that it would take a reputable trustee to a million dollar estate almost 100 years to find an heir... And that they would let a 16 year-old child run amuck with it! LOL, that was harder to swallow than the fantasy stuff. And then the twist at the end had me rolling my eyes.

The story moves along quickly with the narrator telling what happens, without much dialog, which seemed a little shallow, but it is a YA book. And may-be teens will like it fine. I was REALLY hoping it would have the cross generational appeal that Twilight did (forgive the comparison), but it was just ok.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the read April 17, 2011
By DMK
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
In a fit of randomness, I decided to give this book a go. I'm super glad I did.

What I love about this book is not only the way in which it was written, but the context given to both major characters.

I won't go into the synopsis as others have done; there are other reviews that sum up the plot brilliantly.

"Eat your heart out Edward Cullen" was a rather apt sentence I think, as one of the other reviewers have used.

Time is given to develop the two major characters, giving us a charming male lead and (for once) a feisty, tough female lead. For once, I didn't want to slap the heroine twice over.

Definitely worth a go.
