First the bad: Unless you have Windows 7 you will want to kick kittens trying to install this driver. Windows 7 auto installs and configures the unit with no problems. Now the good: I was able to connect and surf on a friends WiFi that according to my GPS is 1.235 miles away! This thing is amazing. It does not overheat, and like I said, the range is just amazing! If they could only weather proof it, and make the driver easier to install this thing would be perfect.

On a side note, The problem with the driver install and configuration is that it tries to install a Virtual Machine to configure the adapter, this would be okay but it is in what appears to be Chinese. When it tried to unzip to a directory it crashes every time (Windows XP Professional). Vista could not install it either, the only machine that I have that could install it was my Windows Seven Ultimate 64 bit. I am trying different drivers from Ralink, if I can find one that works, I will post the link.

***UPDATE****
As promised, here is the link to the WIN ALL driver and utility. Install the driver package first, during the setup you will have to option to use the Windows Zero Configuration, for most people, go with that. When setup is finished you should restart your computer. After restart connect the adapter to any USB port and it will auto install. The installer is for the following: Windows 2000, XP Home and Pro (32 and 64 bit) Vista, and windows 7. Enjoy. The link provided also has the Mac and Linux driver files as well.

For some reason, I cannot post a direct link. Here is the company type it in your address bar and look for GM5-Utilization. From there, on the left side of the page is the link for the ralink RT3070 drivers. Or you can just Google for the ralink RT3070 drivers and it will link to argtek. Good luck.

As stated in a previous review by Aren (Thanks, Aren!!!), it will be a bear trying to install this in WinXP...unless you download drivers for the Ralink 3070 chip set as given in Arlen's excellent and helpful review. Find them on google. I followed his instructions and was able to be up an running with this product in a few minutes. I ran it side-by-side with my Belkin PCI 802n WiFi card with a 8db external antenna. I was picking up 3 WiFi APs nearby with the Belkin setup. With this product, it was showing 23! 10X as many. And nearly all of them had 4-5 bars! Impressive. I had my fingers crossed when I ordered this because of those 'other' products I've bought that promised I'd pick up WiFi from long distances but this is the first one that actually DOES! And for much less $$$.

Then, I moved it to my brand new Win7 build. And, like Aren said, Win7 automatically configured it and I was on-line in a couple minutes. I've been using it for over a week now, nearly 8 hours per day, and it has performed well. Giving me a 65MBPS rate nearly all the time, and sometimes 75MBPS (while the Belkin never showed better then 24MBPS on the same AP, and with 5 bars of signal). Only signal strength drops have been when my brother puts his new Surface tablet computer nearby and tries to watch TV on-line. But it stays connected even then.

One other reviewer said that the two small antennas on the sides are empty and have no function. Maybe his is that way, but I opened the case on mine and there is a wire going to each one. So I'm pretty sure they are functional.

Finally, my warning in the Title: As a computer consultant, I'm aware of the Trojans that have come on product CDs from Chinese suppliers over the years, and the CD that came with this product just screams, "Be Careful!!!

I bought this to improve my wifes wireless capability, since the router was around 500ft away from us. She barely got 1 bar of reception with the laptops built in wifi adapter, with the SignalKing adapter, the signal maxed out, was just like she was sitting next to the router. The only complaint i could see is the slow shipping. Also windows 7 will download the drivers automatically from windows update if you have internet connection at the time, and the CD is not needed. Good product.

UPDATE: SEVERAL MONTHS LATER...

Well been using the signal king for over 6 month now, and I must say, still very impressed longest distance I picked up a router away was just over a mile and a half, it was a single bar but i was able to connect, I still cannot believe how nice this adapter is. The driver issues other people been having problems with, Haven't had an issue, it was easy to find the Ralink drivers for XP for my netbook, which is what i use it on now. As other people said this antenna is actually quite large! you will be surprised my general internet connection is still over 500 ft away where i use this adapter, and still no issues! Its cheap and effective.

I was looking at range extenders for my wireless and came across this. While the claim of almost a 2 mile range is a bit far fetched, I'm sure you can achieve that with line of sight. The bottom line is this exceeded my expectations in what it can do. I am a homebrewer and I have a brewhouse outside (Actually it's an old cleaned up toolshed, but it does the job), about 50 feet away from my house. I wanted to pick up my wireless signal where the router was located in the front my house, and it was barely reaching the brewhouse. I was getting 1 bar....if I was lucky enough to pick up the signal at all. So I bought this for only $20 and I have full bars for my wireless signal. I also could only pick up 3 or 4 other wireless networks in my neighborhood. I am now picking up 23 wireless signals all of 3 bars or greater. Some of them are even unprotected, so if I was the unethical type, I could piggy back off their wireless if I so choose. But it's not necessary, I get full signal strength now where I had almost none. What more could I ask for for a measly $20. Construction is a bit cheap but as I would expect for a unit of this price. I am considering picking up another just to have as a backup for someday when this unit pukes out. People were complaining about ease of installation but I was able to install the software on both computers in the brewhouse. One is an XP machine and my main one is a Linux machine. The Linux required no additional drivers, it picked it up right away. My backup machine just required that I first run the software off the included disk. No problem.
