This song is so good that in my opinion it is worth buying the CD just for this track.

I was rather dissapointed by the awful review's of this CD. I love the band and consider all of there CD's to be the best one's in my collection. Ville Valo's lyrics just pull you into a different reality. The bands songs mixed with the Chris Isaak and Blue Oyster Cult's covers of Wicked Game and Don't Fear (The Reaper) make the CD better than imaginable. I don't care what the other reviews say I would consider this one of my favorite CD's.

Ok, this review is going to be long as there is much to to talk about when it comes to this band. First off, to shup up all you people who know little to nothing about music or the industry that surrounds it, calling HIM a goth or satanic band is like calling Black Sabbath or The Smahing Pumpkins goth. HIM is simply a great rock band, albiet with some definate gothic influences. This band, unlike most bands today, has a style all its own, and if you want to call them goth, satanic, or downright blasphemous go ahead, but youde be idiotic in doing so. All of HIMs' albums are crafted with skill and display something typical rock bands of today are devoid of, vision and talent. Ville Valo and company know what theyre doing, which is fairly evident if you look at theyre musical progression. Theyve combined metal, straight forward rock, and pop influences to become a well oiled machine, capable of doing more in 3 albums than most artists do in 10. Greatest Lovesongs Vol. 666 stands as one of the strongest debut albums in recent memory. From the album opener "Your Sweet 666" to the beautifuly dark "For You", this album could infact be a collection of some of the greatest lovesongs ever written. HIM uses terms like "death" and "666" as metaphors for love, and the feelings that surround being in love. The only reason I can think of why anyone would not be satisfied with anyone of HIMs records if because thyve digested too much mindless, substance-less, and pointlessly angry b.s. that america passes off as rock. Take a minute and think, have there been any american rock bands, in the last 5 years that will be remebered as being great? I know I cant think of any.Read more ›

So, some other reviewer wrote something along the lines of 'HIM sucks, well actually theyre really just the same as some other older bands, so go get these bands instead: "old bauhaus, christian death or sisters of mercy album" '.

Well believing that they might actually sound similar I downloaded some random such tracks (thinking I would find stuff that almost measured up to HIM), but I really can't imagine how someone could think that.

Also, I got a random peter murphy track (who this reviewer claims Ville is trying to emulate)...I don't notice much of any similarity there -- was this like a joke posting or something?

Anyway, obviously anyone who has listened to HIM for a while knows they are amazing stuff -- I think they may have like a single track that I didn't like, and it was the cover of Rebel Yell. But whatever, Greatest Love Songs is great, and check out the newer Dark Light too! (Killing Loneliness is like my favorite song these days...)

The debut album of Finnish Goth rockers HIM. Before I listened to Greatest Love Songs Vol. 666 I owned their second and third album. At first I fought that their debut album was much weaker than their other albums. There are some typical debut elements on the album. For example, the vocals are not always as convincing as on later albums. Furthermore the songs, at first, are not as catchy as on Razorblade Romance. After listening to the album a couple of times, I started to really like the album. The album starts out with the excellent "Your Sweet 666". It is a catchy song with an excellent guitar melody. Strangely enough, the guitar melody reminds me of Megadeth's Youthanasia album. There are two cover songs on the album. "Wicked Game" from Chris Isaac and "Don't Fear The Reaper" from Blue Oyster Cult. Especially "Wicked Game" sounds like HIM had written the song themselves. "Don't Fear The Reaper" could have been better, but I still like the song. On "Don't Fear The Reaper" you can hear a female quest vocalist. The songs on this album sound heavier and darker than on their later albums. Both the music and the lyrics do not sound very positive. The lyrics are about negative relationships. The vocals are very expressive, therefore I understand that the vocals can have a love-it-or-hate-it effect. The music on the album is interesting, but do not expect extensive instrumental parts. Most of the songs are vocal orientated. If you like melancholic, dark, heavy, but catchy songs then check out this album.

I am a true HIM fan. They're my favorite band.I have all of their albums, but this one wasn't as good as the others.

1. Your Sweet 666-I love this song!its the best on the album, much better than the newer version.

2.Wicked Game-Um.....this was an ok cover, personally i didn't like the song to start with.

3.Heartless-I don't really care for this song.

4.Our Diabolikal Rapture-Not a big fan of this song either.

5.its all tears(drown in this love)-A great song, great lyrics and just a unique sound over all.

6.When Love and Death Embrace-One of the better songs on the album.

7.The Beginning of the end-A pretty cool song, but doesn't compare to Your Sweet or its all tears

8.(don't fear)The Reaper-AN AWESOME COVER!!!! you HAVE to hear this version!

9.For You-A very deep song, the Drop-D tuning really stands out.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

If you are a true HIM fan or they are you favorite by all means BUY this album, but if you are just getting into them i recommend Deep shadows or Razorbalde to start out on.
