I've got an old machine running AMD athelon on a VIA board. Think circa 2001. My concerns were that it worked with my old hardware and that it was linux (ubuntu) friendly. I am just too old to spend hours on a dual monitor setup.

Upon card installation, my monitor lit right up with bois dumps. After that it switched over to the onboard for the logon screen. Good so far. After re-running xorg auto config and restarting X, one of my monitors on the new card came right up. You then have to manually add the 2nd monitor, but thats easy. Buttom line is that the ati driver existed and worked.

The other thing to watch out for is the type of card. Older machines will only support a vanilla PCI and sometimes AGP. Be careful not to get a PCI Express if your motherboard doesnt support it.

I did not test on windows, but I'm assuming its pretty plug and play.

The only negative thing I'll say is that it didnt come with a DVI to VGA converter. Old monitors, like CRT's, will only support VGA. Luckily I had an extra lying around, but I'm guessing most will not.

THis 128 MB (64 bit) PCI Graphics card seemed to be a fairly good deal, based on the 5 out of 5 solid reviews I read, but it was a dissapointment for me. Read all reviews carefully. YMMV.

This card was bought to replace failed video on the motherboard of a 7 yr old computer .. the red finally flickered out -- a known problem today with that particular on-board graphics. It arrived in great condition, with effective shipping protection, and an installation disk. Installation was a breeze, and very shortly thereafter the operating system updated the supplied drivers. It was great to have all my colors back, but then...

If you like drama, you may like this ...

Screen changes occur as though a curtain were descending, taking about 1 second to get from the top of my 22" screen to the bottom. Maybe the size of my screen had something to do with it, but the dramatic effect didn't end there. Dragging a smaller window from one area of the screen to another caused the render to act as though an invisible brush were wiping-on & wiping off the image as it wipWIPedED across. Too distracting for me.

I noticed that the card had slots for 4 memory chips, but only two were installed to reach the 128 MB. Perhaps a 256 MB would have worked more as expected, or a smaller screen.

Tried on a failing XP SP3. Failing ... soon afterwards I upgraded to a higher version of Windows, following the card swap.

This purchase was not a total loss for me. A friend with spare video cards gave me one of his, and I gave him this one for his trouble.

I was able to adapt my old Dell Dimension 4400 computer to running dual monitors: one for the desk and one for the flat panel above my treadmill so I can watch streaming movies while I work out. It has just enough resolution to run both monitors in native resolution which makes them very nice to use, whether for movie watching or productivity. This was one of my great computer stuff buys!

This card works well on older pcs that only have PCI slots on the motherboard. It has been working well without problems on my Windows XP Media Center Edition pc. It can play older games, such as Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 and 2. Unfortunately games that are graphic hogs will not work with this graphics card. Otherwise the Card works very well

Usually when you buy a cheap peripheral video card you expect only exceed a little bit the resolution of the onboard video graphics, but in my opinion, this video card is more reliable than the expensive ones.
play video games requires more power, more advanced software. but it cost You.

This is an excellent product for barebone PC computers, being a PCI card that opens the options for diffent product, obligatory item to have in stock, excellent quality with silent cooling

This turned out well in my system. Loved being able to use either a VGA or DVI connection to the monitor.
