I was a bit skeptical buying an HIS brand card since I wasn't too familiar with the brand. However, it came highly recommended on the overclocking forums I frequent. Did a little extra research and could not find a single bad review, quite the opposite, I think it's the best reviewed 7970. The card keeps cool @ 1200 mhz core and 1600 mhz on the shader(haven't even tried pushing it further yet, though I suspect I could) with the voltage upped to a mere 1290 mV, though I've bumped it to 1300 and noticed to significant temperature difference. Speaking of temps, the cooler on this guy not only looks great, but has some outstanding airflow. I'm maxing out Crysis 3, Far Cry 3, Sleeping Dogs, Guild Wars 2, you name it. Will likely Crossfire it soon to further future proof and possibly run 3 monitors.

PS: I know there's been a lot of hate about AMD drivers, but I think that's mostly in the past now. Their beta drivers for releases have been immediate and effective. I've encountered no glitches or any of the infamous "microstuttering"

I picked up a pair of these @ 300$ & change, finding the cooler only a shade below my 7970 lightning yet both cards fit perfectly with EK FC waterblocks. At 80% asic quality, the tandem clock up to 1225/1750 and remain cool at those clocks hovering around the 70° range (in stock form, of course; under water, the cores load in the low 40s). At 1225mhz,these cards only lose to Nvida Titan & GTX 780 cards, respectively. Newegg has them at 310$, the absolute best performance @ 300$ anywhere.

Pros
Looks good, The card is well built and sturdy. The cooler is much quieter than reference design. The card averages 68c in crysis 3. Plays most games at max settings with frame rates at or above 60fps. Card is long, but it is not thick and can easily be cross fired. Pc mark 7333 in firestrike bench.

Cons
The card is long and will not fit in many cases thanks to the extra long cooler. FPS hang in the 20's very often when playing crysis 3 with all settings maxed out. This seems to be average for most high end cards, crysis is a beast, and can easily compensated for by turning off AA.

Other thoughts
I was able to overclock my card to 1175 core and 1500 memory on air. The core voltage is 1184 and the memory voltage is 1600. I have not been able to hit 1200 but I am sure that I could if I increased my voltage to 1250. I will see if I can get a Waterblock that can fit this card, then I will be more aggressive with my overclocks.

Bought the XFX HD 7870 Double Black and the card hit 90C easily in games and Bitmining. I tried to undervolt it and it's impossible since it's physically locked down. So I returned the card and got this HIS version, easily undervolt and overclocked. Rocking all games and especially Bitmining at 1200 mhash/s.

Best of all the temps is steady at 70C with a full load and 29C idle.

First off, I'm using this card in my Cooler Master Storm Stryker case with great cable management (Spent 5 hours on it).

This card never reaches 60 Celsius degrees when gaming on it on maximum settings. Battlefield 4, Skyrim (With many Hi-Res mods and packs), and many other games never seem to be able to make it go above 60C (I used this card temporarily on my old case Gigabyte Sumo 5115 and the temperature would reach 70C when gaming).

I'm also playing on a 27" 2K HD (2560x1440) screen very smoothly with no issues at all.

I'm a very paranoid person when it comes to PC parts temperatures, safety and longevity, which is basically why I picked the IceQ X2.

I'm definitely pairing another one (Or the R9) in CrossFireX soon.
