You will need to design your system around them to be able to even run them at stock levels, much less overclocked.

I was able to overclock my gpu to 1200 mhz.

I picked up 3 of these after everyone sold out of 7950's. I put all 3 on an MSI mobo with a couple of 750 watt power supplies and am getting about 730 kh/s out of each one. Initially these had wicked high temps (95c+) but after undervolting they became very manageable in the high 70s. Overall, these seem more stable than my Powercoler 7950's. Would recommend for use in a litecoin/altcoin miner.

My cgminer settings:

--scrypt --thread-concurrency 8192 -g 2 -I 13 -w 256 --auto-fan --temp-target 70 --gpu-memclock 1500 --gpu-engine 1049 --gpu-powertune -20 --expiry 1 --scan-time 1 --queue 0

In terms of performance this thing is a BEAST! it handles every single game on the market at 1080p whit ultra settings whit easy, and the price is adequate ($300), however its freakin HOT! it gets 80-85º while playing any game, and if i where using it for mining i bet it could get 90-95º and thats just not acceptable, especially whit the HUGE and HEAVY cooler (IceQ).
Out of the box the fan on the right of the card was touching the metal plate in the top of the card so i have to loose 2 screws in the bottom to make this stop... u have to consider, it is a 301mm long card.

Card reaches 1220mhz core, and 7250mhz memory, with 1275MV (around+15-20mv)
Is cool and isnt noisy at all, even at 100% fan speed,
runs similar to the saphire toxic version, but this one requires 2x 8 pin power connectors, and is 12" long and i had to remove my HDD bays to fit it in my CM storm enforcer case.

Overall perfect card besides the length and power that i dont see was necessary considering other brands.

Overview:
I have a pair of these mining LTC and hashing about 730k each. While the card WANTS a pair of 8 pin power connectors I have mine running with 1 8 pin and 1 6 pin. I have a ton of SATA to 6 pin adapters around here but not 8 pin. Most of the other 280x's that I have only require 1 8 pin and they include it in the box.

When mining no matter what I do I can't go above intensity 13 to stay stable. When you are building keep this in mind because cards like the 6950 will give you crap performance @ intensity 13.

My sweet spot for mining seems to be 1050 core and 1500 RAM. It'll run with higher speeds but hashrate kept dropping so I settled in at those settings. I will keep playing with it but I still have to finish building my racks and get around to wiring new circuits just for my racks. Until then I just have rigs scattered throughout the house.
Cons:
Oversized so you may THINK it only takes two slots but if you try to cram another card in it simply will not fit. This should be documented properly or just take 3 slots like the Asus does and I can plan on just putting it on the end of the motherboard.

Pro's:
It runs both cool and quiet which is a relief. Some of the cards I have are so much louder than these. If I were to build a bigger farm these are certainly on my list of cards I think I'd use.

I have owned this card for a few months and I am happy with it. It overclocks a little better than my 7970. I can't speak for bitcoin mining, but this card can play any game that you want, at 1080p with 45+ frames per second at highest settings. I have not done extensive testing of this because shortly after I purchased the card I put it in crossfire. Two of these cards can easily play any game out, at well above 60 fps, on a 1080p screen. If you are looking for 4k gaming I would go elsewhere, but this card is definitely the best you can get if your monitor is only 1080p. Anything more than this would be overkill. I cant speak on higher resolution monitors like 1440p, but I hear it does well with that to. It is also important to note that these cards have been known to overclock well. I was able to overclock my gpu to 1200 mhz. I have seen big jumps in my fps as a result. You are not just blowing smoke when you overclock this thing, there are practical benefits.

Pros
Overclock-ability ( No guarantees, every card is different, but I like your chances with this card)
PCB is reference so you can easily fit a waterblock on it.
Can crossfire with the 7970.
High end performance with mid range price. Their really is no need for something more expensive if you have a 1080p screen.
The fans are relatively quiet.

Cons
This card is long. I would be weary of placing this card in a small to midsized case. Make sure you have the room.
I have experienced coil wine since I began watercooling my cards. I am not sure if it is this card or my HIS HD 7970 ICE Qx.
WARNING: THIS CARD IS NOT AS PICTURED. THE COOLER IS NOT BLACK BUT GOLD. This would have been a deal breaker if I were not going to water cool the card.

I had previously ordered an MSI R9 280X 3GB Gamer card. The first one arrived and had severe flickering problems in 2d which is where I do most of my work. At random times, it would flicker the screen while I scrolled, watched a YouTube video or other random, simple things. In 3D it was solid. I got a replacement MSI card through Amazon and same deal but to a lesser extent.

I decided to look at another brand and ordered this HIS model. It's been100% solid and fast.

THIS CARD IS GOLD NOT BLACK. Amazon needs to fix this.
