Excellent Look at Hitler,
This review is from: HITLER AT THE OBERSALZBERG: With Perceptions (Paperback)
This book is a fascinating look into an much misunderstood facet of Hitler's life. It lays bare the confusion surrounding the facilities and activities at Obersalzberg, and provides a candid view of the man Hitler. The interviews with Paula Hitler and others provide a slice of the HItler story I have never read. A student of history for 30 years, this book has illuminated aspects of Hitler that no other book could do. Buy it and read it if only for the interviews with Hitler's sister, comrade and pilot.

This review is from: HITLER AT THE OBERSALZBERG (Hardcover)
I was excited to read this book written by someone who had served in the US Military and was Director of Publicity for the Armed Forces Recreation Center head quartered in Berchtedgaden during the late 1950's. His position gave him access to documents and eye witnesses less than a decade after the war. He was not only on the ground there but had the opportunity to meet and interview Hitler's sister, Paula before she died, Hitler's personal pilot Hans Baur, and Hitler's immediate superior officer during World War I, Johann Langwieder. The book is well referenced and documented. At 212 pages I wish it had been longer, Those interested in the Berghoff, the Zum Turken, the bunker system on the "mountain," the Eagle's Nest, the Tea House on the Mooslahner Koph, and the general history of the the Obersalsberg will find this book informative and interesting. I wish the book had an index. Readers might also enjoy a novel about the Berghoff entitled "Eva's Cousin" by Sibylle Knauss, The book is based on the true experiences of Eva Braun's cousin Gertrude Weisker. Two other books of interest are "Hitler at My Side" a non-political autobiography by Hans Baur and "Hitler's Personal Pilot The Life and Times of Hans Baur by C.G. Sweeting.

I was surprised to find this book so interesting. It felt as if you were in the room during the conversations. I really enjoyed it and my wife found it fascinating as well!
