Editorial Reviews

Review

I knew of these books..there are 3 of them in the series..a long time ago,but for some reason not until recently did i bother to get them..there is the the train of thought that a lot of what is written in them is fantasy..what must be said if anyone takes the time to read the author's preface is that thexse books (to me anyway)put forward possible ideas of what might have been going on..we can only gather so much data and try and re-build a bigger picture to see what might or might not be the truth of the matter..much of the truth and solid evidence is long gone in the mists of the decades after world war two..what we have is shreds of evidence left that we can decide on what is fiction or for real..any way you look at it to my mind is fascinating..there was a lot going on in the Third Reich's Scientific Community to make you wonder how far they would have got if the situation had been a lot differently..A truelly strange part of history which is illuminated very well in this book and the oither two books in the series...Keep an open mind when reading this book then decide on it's merits..Very strange indeed..The huge question is though..What else don't we know about and never will? --David Kirk

This is the story of Hitlers last rockets and unmanned intercontinental weapon-systems like the von Brauns "Amerika Raketen " A -10,A-11 and A-12 .With an incredible range of unpublished information Georgs book is a gripping read . --Larry Petersen

Adding details to the first two volumes of this series, the author provides credible information regarding the so-called Amerika rocket, an intercontinental missile that was planned to strike New York, and which was delayed only by the end of hostlities. He references contemporary documents and sources who were there that tell us about a week separated defeat from victory. Evidence is shown of long-range weather and tracking components being in place and various guidance schemes and devices. Information is also included about a planned orbital station and Space Mirror. A concept that would be attempted on a smaller scale by the Russians in 1999.

A contemporary newspaper account from December 1944 quotes Mayor La Guardia about this V-3 missile, plus a statement from the CCS dated the same month regarding a Presidential directive about a possible intercontinental missile attack. The author provides color photos of various scale models showing various rocket configurations. Also shown is a contemporary photo with various German rocket wind tunnel models that includes rockets in an American space shuttle type combination.

Highly recommended for those putting together the puzzle of secret German research during 1944-45.

Since the victors always write history, this book looks at what was not written in the last 65 years concerning Hitlers rocket program that according to "official" historical accounts ended in 1942.Rocket research did not end and continued for another three years in Nazi Germany. If Germany's rocket program was so stuck on trying to make the V-2 operation, then why does this book have a whole section devoted to the V-3 scare in which US military contacted NYC and made plans for its eventual bombing by rockets? Some might think this book "too far out there", but it sure makes you wonder...

Format: Hardcover
The 3rd volume in the 'Hitler's Miracle Weapons' series has to be taken with a grain of salt. At best, many of the designs depicted in the book were at most, a sketch that came into being as a result of someone's musings. The rocket shown on page 93 and in the lineup on page 92 is virtually straight out of the 1952 book 'Across the Space Frontier' - pages 24 and 26 - though the artist for the 1952 depiction (Rolf Klep) did a far superior job of rendering the proposed spacecraft. The quality of several of the line drawings for this book also suffers badly. The depictions of the spacecraft on page 94 and those on page 34 have line "aliasing" problems which is surprising considering the advances in computer graphics over the past several decades. These particular illustrations would have been understandable for 1980s era computer generated graphics but certainly not for a 21st century published work. Nevertheless, the computer generated color illustrations of the different rockets are nicely done and should have been used more extensively to replace the photos of the various scale model rockets, which seem crude by comparison. An interesting book though it does strains the bounds of credibility.
