Includes questions and answers about testing as well as a wealth of source information, including free hotline numbers.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

In the first such guide, the former chair of the HIV testing and counseling program of the New Orleans AIDS Task Force summarizes the origins and scope of this global epidemic, outlines risk factors of exposure to AIDS, explains what the different tests measure, and discusses medical, legal, and emotional considerations in dealing with negative, positive, or inconclusive test results. Unfortunately, the book's condescending tone undermines its effectiveness in educating readers about this important topic. Concluding questions and answers succinctly summarize much of the book's information. A brief bibliography, a glossary, and appendixes listing national AIDS resource groups and HIV test reporting practices by state do not provide material that can't be found elsewhere. Still, because of possible demand and its affordable price, this is an optional purchase for popular medical collections.
