Book Description

2010
The comprehensive, detailed, and ultimate reference guide for Panasonic's HMC150, HMC80 and HMC40 camcorders is now shipping: "The HMC Book" (with an included CD-ROM). This book and CD package presents a comprehensive examination of the cameras and all their features, settings, and modes, the tapeless workflow, working with AVCHD footage, and tutorials on some of the most common situations users find themselves facing. The book de-mystifies what all the features of the cameras actually do, as well as explaining when and why you'd want to use each setting for the best results. An extensive section of tutorials and essays teach a range of subjects from the simple to the advanced, including explanations on how to get the shallow depth-of-field look, how to control strobing and shoot 24P (or 25P) for the best results, and how to use the waveform monitor and vectorscope. The book is jam-packed with photos and screenshots throughout its 256 full-color, high-quality glossy pages. Also included is a CD-ROM which contains all the scene file explanation pictures and sample scene file photographs in uncompressed format, as well as 24 SCENE FILES that you can copy to an SD card and upload into your HMC150-series camera. Scene Files for 60Hz (USA) and 50Hz (Europe and Asia/Pacific) are included. This book expands on and supplants the earlier The HMC150 Book, by adding over 40 pages of coverage of the HMC40 and HMC80, and a new Frequently Asked Questions section that covers common workflow and operational issues, as well as completely rewritten tutorials for basic camcorder operations such as Focusing, White Balance, Exposure, and other sections that help new users (or those new to professional camcorders) to get the most from their new camera.

5.0 out of 5 stars The HMC BOOK, March 28, 2011
This review is from: The HMC Book (Spiral-bound)
I got this book as part of a deal with the HMC41E, the European version of the Panasonic HMC40 camera. I would not normally have bought this item separately. I must say though that if you have purchased one of these cameras this book is fantastic. I have been involved in video production for about 16 years and I learnt a lot from this book. It is extremely well researched, clearly written, informative and full of good advice. I actually paid quite a lot for it but consider that it was a good addition to the cameras manual. Now for the difficult bit going out and taking that lovely footage and following all that good advice! Oh I will be referring to it well into the future.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good concise book-- But pricey!, April 23, 2011
This review is from: The HMC Book (Spiral-bound)
I teach video production and would recommend this book, except for the cost. It gets to the point and covers many basic videography technology points quite well, but if you have an non-HMC camera, you'll get a bigger bang for your buck with the $24.95 "Guide to Essential Basics of Audio and Video Production."
