The connector would not connect with my iPad or iPhone case on - and I have very thin cases.

Received this as a Christmas present from my wife and kids to replace an old 30-pin dock. I had bought the apple 30-pin to lightning connector, which worked great until I could get a replacement (that adapter is now making my car stereo work for me). The phone sits pretty high when docked into this, which concerns me, but the spring plate and the stand in the back do their job well. It is frustrating that Apple doesn't let companies make docks with varying specs so that the lightning connector will actually work with a phone case on, nor do they allow companies to make a certified dock extender, but that is not the fault of HMDX or this handy little alarm. I purchase a slider phone case, so I slide the bottom off at bed time without having to take my entire case off, and it has made my life easier. Prior to the slider case, I used the USB charging port and either the auxiliary cable or Bluetooth to charge and play my phone, which made for a very flexible solution to meet my needs.

The alarm came with a brief 9 page manual, but it has all the instructions that previous reviewers said were lacking. You hold alarm 1 to set alarm 1 (simple enough). Adjust the hour, push alarm 1 again, adjust the minute, push alarm 1 again, adjust the day (everyday, weekdays, weekends, very handy feature), push alarm 1 again, adjust the wake up method (beep, radio, iPhone, quite simple), push alarm 1 again and you can set the volume with which the alarm will raise to as it gradually wakes you up. I'm not sure what problems the other reviewers were having, but pushing the button again to change each individual setting of the alarm seems like a simple concept to me.

Two alarms, lots of features for setting each. Very nice speakers, a sturdy dock connection, an auxiliary port, a USB charging port (for non-iPhones, or iPhones that won't dock) and Bluetooth. That is a very impressive feature lineup for a docking station, and every feature has worked flawlessly for me.

I use my Iphone5 every day for many different purposes. With the help of a good docking-station/alarm clock, I can even use it to awaken in the morning to my own music AND a fully charged phone. I have had such docks before and have been pleased with this combination of functions.

Recently, I bought a new one: The HMDX Freedom Bluetooth Stereo Dock. It claims to have been built specifically for Idevices with Lightning connectors like the Iphone5. The unit looks nice, has a large display screen and speakers considerably larger and more powerful that the one it was replacing. I followed the directions in the small guide to set it up. No problem. However, the directions stop before giving any instructions about how to set the Iphone before docking it so as to wake to music I have on it.

It seemed that the second half of the manual was missing. I tried several different ways to set it up, based on my experiences with other devices of this type. Had I relied on it to wake me up this morning, I would have been late for work.

Once at the office, I called The HMDX Service Center. A pleasant young man listened to me describe my question. He had no idea! He did not even have an Iphone available to try the device out for himself. He suggested that perhaps I should use the alarm setting in the phone rather than the alarm settings on the HMDX dock. He had never read the useless manual.

I am returning the device today.

A company simply should not be retailing a product, perhaps especially an electronics one, that they neither understand nor can assist users with.

Spend your money on something that works and is made by a company that understands their responsibilities to customers. HMDX simply does not.

This clock is horrible to figure out how to use. Would NOT recommend it to anyone. The only thing I've found it good for is to charge iPod and iPad, but you can plug these into a wall to charge.

Won't power up. Tried everything, pulled the back up battery and reset it to try that too. Display doesn't come on and the buttons don't work. I bought this despite problems I have had before with HMDX products (buttons that don't work, displays that fade over time) hoping for better results with this model. Nope, and I am done with this brand for good,

The clock itself looks great ! Directions are useless. Wouldn't count on this "gem" to wake me, alarm worked 1 time in a week worth of trial. For the price you're better off using smart phone. Or do what I ended up doing, waking up to my cat looking for his breakfast- a sure wake up at 5 every morning, even on days off !
Anyway, wish I hadn't bought this item.
