4.0 out of 5 stars The later Charles Addams., May 26, 2003

Fifty years later I still quote and enjoy the classic cartoons of Addams. This is later Addams, and there are more hits than misses in this 1954 collection. About half the cartoons lack captions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warped and Twisted for Gary Larsen fans and others like that, April 27, 2002

Why not explore this side of your psyche? Imagine a train, with two people looking out the window, seeing the landscape pass by. A large box with the words "LIONEL" looms in the distance...

Is that to your taste? If it is, you'll like this:

A man on his knees with his head in the oven, a suicide note pinned to his jacket on the chair. In the background, the landlady enters shouting,"Mr. Mitchell, you know you don't have kitchen privileges!"

Yes, they are all this twisted. I hope you'll buy and enjoy...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for fans of macabre humor, December 20, 2011
In my opinion, Charles Addams has the most distinctive style of cartooning as well as one of the darkest senses of humor. His classic Addams family series turns normality on its head, making light of the darkest features of human existence. The macabre is made funny; even cannibalism and murder can be used to generate a chuckle.
This collection contains some cartoons featuring the members of the Addams family, others are based on incongruity. One of my favorites has a psychic with a crystal ball telling her husband as we walks out with his golf bag, "You're going to shoot a hundred and fourteen dear." Another has a man about to stick his head in a gas oven when the housemistress comes in and says, "Mr. Mitchell, you know you don't have kitchen privileges."
While his humor is not for everyone, Charles Addams' cartoons have never failed to amuse me; these are some of his best.
