5.0 out of 5 stars Best vacuum for the price -- and I should know!
I've owned janitorial and housecleaning businesses for decades. We only use products that WORK WELL, and the Hoover Tempo is an all-time favorite. This vac will suck the hide off a hog. Nothing on the market is better for pet hair. In a perfect world, the only things I would change on the Tempo are making it lighter, and a tad more maneuverable. I've had a Hoover Tempo in...

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap, low quality
This was a very disappointing vacuum. I know that it is cheap, but save your money for something that works. It didn't pick up dirt very well, then the belt broke. I replaced the belt and it broke again after a couple of hours. It sat around the home taking up space for awhile before I decided to throw it away. I know Hoover used to make top notch vacuums, but evidently...

Nothing on the market is better for pet hair. In a perfect world, the only things I would change on the Tempo are making it lighter, and a tad more maneuverable. I've had a Hoover Tempo in my own home for several years, vacuum once a week, and am still using the belt it came with.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Bang for the Buck, December 30, 2010
By

I've owned this vacuum for nearly a year and have had not one problem. Purchased it on advice of consumer website. With two dogs, a cat and kids, I have always had problems with belts breaking. Not so with this one. So far so good, anyway.

Yes, it's cheap. Got mine for $80. When you see it and pick it up, you know it's cheap. But then you turn it on, WHOE NELLIE, it takes off like a bandit. Awesome suction! Thankfully, it seems to know what to pick up and what not to or I'd be pulling socks outta the thing as I've had to do with other vaccuums. Great pick up.

Now the reasons I didn't give it 5 stars.

1. The brush never shuts off even on the bare floor setting. I raised it up a little and it did the job without damaging my hardwood. Would be better, though, if I could use the lowest setting.

2. The attachments don't stay tight on the back of the machine.

3. It's odd how the cord is wound up when you're done.

4. Difficult controlling the suction when doing drapes and such.

But these are minor things for me. I'm tired of paying hundreds of dollars more for machines that don't vaccuum as well. I am very happy with this purchase.

1.0 out of 5 stars Immediately Broke!, May 28, 2007

I, too, am extremely disappointed with this vacuum. The belt broke within a week of purchase...when I contacted Hoover for a replacement belt, they sent the wrong size. The shoddy craftsmanship coupled with the poor customer service makes this an incredibly poor purchase. Save your money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Can't Believe It !!!!, May 4, 2010
This review is from: Bagged Tempo Uprite
I can't believe this. It's a Hoover, right? Its suction is like a tornado. It's built like a commercial grade machine.

HOWEVER . . . you cannot use this vacuum on bare floors!! It's only a vacuum for carpeted areas. I wish they had mentioned that in the description!!! If you use the "Bare Floor" setting (why does it have a Bare Floor setting when you can't use it on a bare floor!!???), the brush actually beats the floor. It doesn't brush the floor or accidentally brush/spit dirt out the back at your feet, it actually BEATS the floor. I have laminate and tile floors. If I had real wood floors, the floors would be dented, scratched, and knicked due to this piece of machinery.

Sooooo . . . I call the Hoover company. This has GOT to be a mistake. "No," claims the rep, "this is the way it is built."

ME: Why in the world would a vacuum have a bare floor setting, if it wasn't meant to be used on a bare floor?

REP: You can use it on the bare floors, you just have to set the height higher.

ME: You mean I can't use the "Bare Floor" setting on bare floors? The brush is actually BEATING up my floors. The belt broke on the 4th use. I'm pretty sure a vacuum shouldn't so this.

REP: (silence)

ME: Hello??

REP: Put the vacuum on a higher setting.

ME: You are evading my point. Also, if I put it on a higher setting I can't get the suction I need to pull dirt off of a bare floor.

REP: The specs on this vacuum say that the brusher roll does not turn off. It is continuous no matter what the height setting.

ME: And that's appropriate?

REP: It's disclosed to the consumer on our Web site.

Anyway . . . you get the gist. Pathetic customer service and a function on the machine that is so bad/harmful, that I can only give this product a zero rating. Hoover has really messed up and is not willing to take ownership of the problem. Sad, but true. My last Hoover lasted 10 years and was phenomenal.
