5.0 out of 5 stars Top quality parts and build, though still seems expensive September 25, 2012

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
If you want the review of the stick proper, without all the research info I gathered and why I went w/ this stick over the others, just skip to the --REVIEW-- header.

I purchased the Hori Real Arcade Pro VX Kai thanks to the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector's Set. I haven't properly played a fighting game in years. My fascination spans back to Street Fighter II, and in the late 90s, early-mid 2000s, I got into the Neo Geo in a major way. I loved fighting games, but at some point, the fascination died (pretty much when Playmore began releasing games like Rage of the Dragons, which I didn't enjoy).

I got back into it in a small way with Street Fighter IV, but bought the game and only played a hand full of times, despite absolutely adoring it. For whatever reason, the anniversary collection has resonated with me and reawakened my fighting spirit!

I was rusty. I tried playing with the 360 controller. There is no love and no wiggle room with the controller - it's brutal, it doesn't feel good on my thumb and from lack of use, the cross pad was stiff and lifeless (and the analog sticks on a fighting game? I can't do it.). It was like trying to operate on a patient with a stick and a rock - no precision(well, I assume that's what it would be like, I don't know for sure).

I did some research and came up with a few choices:

This stick, the HORI Xbox 360 Real Arcade Pro VX SA KAI
Real Arcade Pro VX SA

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for PC April 4, 2014
Platform for Display:Xbox 360|Verified Purchase
Great stick, I'm currently using it to play SSFIV AE on the PC.

At first this stick was incompatible with my PC, as I have windows 7 x64. The RAP.NX driver was installed but windows said it failed. As a result, the stick initially didn't work with my PC. You have to:

1. Download and install xbox 360 accessories drivers from microsoft.
2. Go to device manager, select RAP.NX and click update driver.
3. Select driver manually from the list from my PC.
4. Choose the Microsoft controller class and choose the xbox 360 controller 2009 version (it tells you not compatible but do it anyways)

The stick should now work, you're simply overriding the bad driver initially installed with the working Microsoft gamepad one.

Buttons are top-notch and have good sensitivity.

I've owned a few sticks in the last few years... A couple of Madcatz TEs, Eightarcs, and even a couple of other Hori HRAPs. I guess you can say I am a fightstick enthusiast. I've kept a few and have given a few away. When I saw the price drop on the KAI, I figured it was cheap enough to give it a shot.

When I received the HORI KAI, I placed it right next to a TE, an Eightarc, a Hori HRAP EX-SA and a Hori HRAP VX-SA. Now, whether you like Seimitsu or Sanwa is a preferential thing. I like the Sanwa buttons sensitivity and JFL Stick feel. And this stick, like almost all the others on the market, had them both.

I can honestly say that right now the KAI is my preferred stick for UMVC3, SFXT and SSF4AEV2012. It may be that "it's my new toy" effect playing a role, in me saying that, so for the purpose of this review, I will compare it directly to the VX-SA. I must say that compared to the VX-SA, the KAI fightstick out shines its predecessor ever so slightly in many little departments. Although both have great build quality and the quality shines throughout, I guess you could say it's the little things that count and make the KAI a favorite.

1) Visually, once you do your button swaps (nothing wrong with the buttons... Sanwa is Sanwa, just hate the rainbow XBOX button scheme), The Black color and the decals on this stick just look nicer that the VX-SA. Granted, the VX-SA's off-white on off-white was nice and clean, I was a little jealous when I found out the PS3 version of the VX-SA was black. Some may not like the KAI's decals and that's understandable but a quick decal swap and you're all set. Anything I can think of putting on the stick will look nice on the black.

2) The added distance between the KAI's joystick and buttons is welcome.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Arcade/Fight Stick June 10, 2013
Platform for Display:Xbox 360|Verified Purchase
This is a really good arcade stick. Another nice product that will mostly go unnoticed considering how Madcatz has saturated the market. None the less old school Hori Consumers will feel right at home with this one. Sanwa JLF stick with Sanwa face buttons, but u can also easily swap out the parts for modding. The felted bottom is also a nice touch to prevent slipping for those who play on their lap. I would say that this stick is very comparable to the Madcatz SFxT PRO series . It states the stick and buttons are actually spaced a little more from most standard layouts, but even the most hardcore stick users will barely notice it. My only complaints about this stick are: 1) The price point. Hori sticks tend to be a lot more pricey than their competitors for similar products, which is another reason why people may pass on this. And Hori products rarely ever go on sale. 2) This stick is very light (like all Hori Sticks) at just slightly over 4lbs. So if U're looking for something with more heft, this may not be for you. And lastly 3) the cord isn't very long at just under 9.5ft. But some argue that the Madcatz cords at 13ft are too long. Not really a complaint but something to think about if ur debating purchasing this stick. Other than that the stick performs really well and nothing to complaint about in that regard. But if you're planning to buy a new or your first stick, their are cheaper alternatives that perform just as well, maybe better.
