...I have to give Eggleston's wee little volume 5 stars. I mean, it's William Eggleston for cryin' out loud! He's not a dog photographer or a horse photographer, he's William Eggleston. He has taken the mundane and elevated it to mythic status, proving again and again that anything can be made into an interesting photograph. Of course a good part of the ability to...

This book is not about 'horsies and doggies', but rather contains photographs of these animals in everyday settings, typical of the artist's work. William Eggleston is one of the premier color photographers today, and has been challenging the art world since the mid 1960's with his MOMA exhibit. This book is not about 'horsies and doggies', but rather contains photographs of these animals in everyday settings, typical of the artist's work. William Eggleston is one of the premier color photographers today, and has been challenging the art world since the mid 1960's with his MOMA exhibit. Previous exposure to his work would be helpful in understanding this book; people ignorant of the impact of his photographs might find them uninspired or boring.

He has taken the mundane and elevated it to mythic status, proving again and again that anything can be made into an interesting photograph. Of course a good part of the ability to elevate the banal to the pinnacle of importance is due to Eggleston's reputation. After all, Eggleston is Eggleston and these are Eggleston photographs.
