This review is from: Is it HOT in here, or am I just HOT? (Paperback)
While reading this book, I thought back to when my widowed mom was in midlife and how much society and ideas about women in midlife have changed, thankfully for the better in the three decades since then. This book points out so many myths about midlife that have been proven untrue and the author joyfully debunks so many of them. Midlife may not be a "bowl of cherries," (then again what part of life is?) but it absolutely doesn't have to be a drag either. And midlife guys, while this book may be written for our wives and/or girlfriends there still are a few chapters you would be well-advised to read too.
The author touches on so many different topics in this book and so many of them really hit home with me. Topics like "the big O," or how midlife male health issues (balding, bifocals, enlarged prostate) and/or stress-related issues can lead to less sex in the relationship. This book offers suggestions for dealing with these and other issues. There's also talk about one issue that used to strike fear in men young and old -- menopause. I remember back when Premarin seemed to be the drug of choice to help with menopause and thankfully now there are so many other options. The author also talks about exercise as not only a good idea health wise, it can also give you more energy for "bedroom playtime," always a good thing. Another topic near and dear to my heart was "dating in midlife," along with advice on how to successfully find another partner. Her advice for meeting potential dates is solid. I'm reminded not only of some of my dating experiences, but those of my mom who was a widowed, single mom for years before remarrying. As a midlife male, this book gave me a bit of insight into women in midlife and also gives out the strong message that midlife is not a time for anyone (male or female) to make excuses about being "too old" or "too achy" or "too tired" to get out and enjoy life.

Totally enjoyed it!,

This review is from: Is it HOT in here, or am I just HOT? (Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The author tackles topics that probably every woman over 40 has wanted to talk about, but many are too afraid/embarassed to discuss. It's nice to know that I'm not the only person wondering about these topics - everyting from sex toys to sex in the tub to jump-starting your sex life after age 40! And she presents it all with humor and class - how refreshing! It's an easy read, and really makes you feel good about yourself.
Signed, Midlife in Maryland

Sunny tells it like it is---,

This review is from: Is it HOT in here, or am I just HOT? (Paperback)
Sunny bypasses wishful thinking and goes right to how to motivate yourself to do what you have to do to be heaalthier (and sexier). She gives you such a great understanding of what your husband is thinking and going through and what to do about it. The book gives the nitty gritty of how to wake up your libido and covers everything that touches your sex life-PMS, prostate, parents, hormones, sexy movies. It's all here in a funny, friendly way. You realize that we're all going through this stuff, it's normal, and there are things we can do about it!

A rich resource on sexuality and relationships,
By
This review is from: Is it HOT in here, or am I just HOT? (Paperback)
This is one of the few books that I have read where sexuality and relationships are spoken about so plainly. Honestly, reading this book was refreshing and eye opening. Sunny Fresh describes what it is to be older, and to still have a fulfilling life despite what the general media shows you that only the young know how to live.
Her topics are frank, it is almost like sitting down and speaking with long-time friends about topics you may be slightly embarassed to speak about. This book covers finding your sex drive again, how to get what you want to from your partner in your sexual relationship, understanding his body and what he may be going through. The book also covers things like menopause, and things you can do to make your life easier. My favorite chapter of hers was called Dating in Midlife - like High School, but with more Baggage than American Airlines. So you can see that she helps you with many things with humor. If you feel like you may not know some of the modern terminology with dating, or sex, read this book she will bring you back up to date. Sunny Hersh definately writes this book from the perspective that life should be lived to its fullest, and you have the power to make your life rich and wonderful. I definate must for those who are trying to get back into the swing of things, and those of us that want to feel young forever. Sitting down with this book is much like sitting down with a bunch of girlfriends and really talking about how things really are.

How about a Little Oomph in Your Life?,
By
This review is from: Is it HOT in here, or am I just HOT? (Paperback)
If your sex life has gotten stale and boring, if you think that it's supposed to be this way after 40, then give this little book a try.
Sunny Hersh tackles the problems and delights of sex after 40 with a grin, a wit, and some fabulous advice to spark a new interest in romance. Aimed primarily at women, there are plenty of tricks (sorry, couldn't resist) to keep the attention of the males around. Get advice from a competent medical professional before following her advice on hormones and plastic surgery. Research has identified unhappy correlations between the use of hormone replacements and later appearance of neurological disorders. Otherwise, there's plenty to enjoy -- sex and this book! Try it. You'll like it!

Hip Look at Sex for the 40 and Over Crowd,
By
This review is from: Is it HOT in here, or am I just HOT? (Paperback)
The bright cover clues you in that there may be a few eye-openers in the book. Sunny Hersh advises women in their 40s, 50s, 60s to "be real." Now's the time to confront your sexual fears and those of your partner. In long-time relationships, sometimes we get out-of-sync sexually with our spouse. The book with its fun wording and playful approach gives hope in a frank and open way. There are no detailed diagrams for sexual postions, but plenty of advice for getting back on track.
A sampling of the chapter titles show the variety contained within the book: *He really does want to rub you the right way! *The Big O Primer *Good Vibrations = Excitement *PMS in Your 40s = Psychotic Mood Swings *Sex - Why Bother? *Why his crisis can be worse than yours *It's never too late to be picky about men *Take your own breath away

I enjoyed this book so much! I have recommended it to all of my girlfriends. The author takes a subject that most people are uncomfortable discussing and jumps right in! Her observations are right on target and delivered with witty aplomb! I'm keeping this book right next to my bed, for easy reference!!

Saucy, sexy, but ultimately scattered advice for aging boomers,
By
This review is from: Is it HOT in here, or am I just HOT? (Paperback)
The book covers a huge amount of ground on every topic you can think of regarding aging and sexuality -- I found the wide range to be more distracting than helpful. It's really a scattershot approach... the author veers wildly from topic to topic, without going into much depth on anything. That being said, she is authoritative, informative, and chatty; it's like having a frank sex talk with your best friend.
I also felt that I had to deduct a star because of the extremely poor proofreading job. The many, many typos were also a distraction. (My favorite one was about a "role in the hay". LOL) Ultimately, it's a fun read, but not riveting.

Finally, a book that speaks openly......,
By
This review is from: Is it HOT in here, or am I just HOT? (Paperback)
Finally a book that speaks openly on women and sexuality after 40. Sunny's witty and open minded style turns a private topic into an empowering read. She dispels many of the taboo ideas women have about their sexuality. That being sexually satisfied creates a life energy that radiates from the inside out. Her ideas on how to awaken your sexuality are liberating as well as being the greatest form relaxation. Getting to know how your body responds sexually is important for all over health and emotional empowerment. As a Certified Life & Esteem Coach I would highly recommend this to all women looking to resurrect their sexuality and tap into a natural energy source.
