A Great Walk Through,
By Bu-Chan (Aotearoa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HOW WEAPONS WORK (Hardcover)
"How Weapons Work" is a great book that gives the reader a very good, not-too-heavy-on-the-details look at a variety of weapons, both historical and modern. I should qualify that what the book refers to as "modern" is now rather dated, but the book has a lot of value for weapons technology and how it developed through the decades.
The book is divided into sections based on the weapon types: Small Arms and Ammunition, Artillery, Tanks, Warships, Aircraft and Bombs and Missiles. Each section covers a potted history of the weapons, (some more detailed than others), as well as giving the major developments in the last century or so. The details cover systems associated with the weapons, especially in the case of the aircraft and warships sections, of course. For people looking for a basic overview of weapons, with a good balance of technical detail, this is a good book. It quite dated now, though I found it valuable, despite this significant drawback. |
