Absorbs the ultraviolet rays which often makes outdoor photographs hazy and indistinct. A general use filter for Digital and Video cameras as well as color or black and white films. As it is made of optical glass and will enhance image quality, most photographers leave it on the lens at all times to serve as a lens protector.

A Kid's Review

Its clear, crisp and cheap protection for your lens. I use mine on my three Nikon lenses and I am very pleased with the quality. I had one take a "hit" during a sandstorm in central Nevada and it was ruined. $[...] later I had a new filter on my lens and my lens is still in perfect condition as the filter had absorbed the damage. Best deal out there to protect your lens!

I use the Hoya UV filters primarily for lens protection, but it does offer nice lighting enhancements. It's a no-brainer purchase.

I use the UV filters primarily as a clear lens protector for my DSLR lenses. Keeping that in mind, this lens arrived in good condition, screwed onto my camera lens just fine, and seems to be doing its job.
