HP Excellence,
By
This review is from: HP LaserJet 1200se Printer (Office Product)
After using the HP Laserjet 5L for 6 years, I decided to upgrade to the 1200. I love it. It's fast, economical (tone save function) and expandable if your needs grow. I'm a one person business user, so I elected to add the copier / color scanner. This permits scanning and directly emailing docs. Also, OCR and FAXing directly. Wow!!As usual, HP is superbly reliable, although supplies are no bargin (I'd never use gray market toner to save pennies). Some folks complain about no printer cable - go to a retail outlet - no cable there either. It's standard practice, not deception. HP has captured the laser printer market through there very common 11 years mean time between failures of the printer frame (excluding the toner cartridge), excellent quality, and competitive cost per print (~2.2 cents per page with 1200 series), and speed 15 pages per minute. The copies this little guy produces are as good as the local copy shop! I'd buy HP again without hesitation.

Reliable, great buy,

This review is from: HP LaserJet 1200se Printer (Office Product)
I've had my HP laserprinter for about 6 months and really love it. I frequently print out relatively large (50+ pages) documents and have had no problems whatsoever. The print quality is very good, and the printer is fairly quick. I have not had ANY printer jams since I bought it, which is quite a contrast to other printers that I've used in the past. Overall, a very reliable printer that is a great buy. In fact, I recently purchased a second one for my other office. Highly recommended.

This is a WONDERFUL printer for the money,

I researched buying a printer for a long time. I wanted a color laserjet printer but couldn't afford one because I needed a printer with a resolution of at least 1200 dpi. Well, I didn't get color, but this printer has a high quality resolution. You cannot go wrong with Hewlett Packard. The quality is excellent and even though you might pay a little more, you will appreciate it in a long run.Bravo for HP!

No Problems Here!,
By A Customer
This review is from: HP LaserJet 1200se Printer (Office Product)
Got mine just before Christmas after years with a HP DeskJet 500.... Installation was painless and it worked right away. I installed this on an old clunker 133MHZ Pentium running Windows 95. Loved the 1200dpi resolution. The gripes...there always something. No Power Switch?? C'mon HP!! To power off you have to unplug it from the wall. Seems kind of cheap. Overall worth the bucks!

Great Machine, Great Value!,
By
This review is from: HP LaserJet 1200se Printer (Office Product)
A solid "introductory level" laser printer that has features normally found on much more expensive machines. I've used an HP Deskjet 500 for years and finally got tired of the incredibly expensive inkjet cartridges and of the "refill kits" that usually either don't work at all or end up leaking all over the inside of your machine. The laserprint technology is definitely the way to go in terms of ease of use, cost per page and print quality. I will never go back to inkjet.I have been using this machine for about four months and have no complaints whatsoever...it works perfectly every time. The only warning I would wish to extend to users is that in the event you have difficulties installing the included software, try rebooting your machine without drivers running and then running the install....this software seems to be highly sensitive to that, at least it was on my WIN 98SE machine. Other than that, the machine was easy to set up and is a breeze to use, completely dependable in all respects. ...

Light print, paper jams, and darkroom needed,
By A Customer
This review is from: HP LaserJet 1200se Printer (Office Product)
After 12 happy years with HP LaserJet Series II printers, our law office recently upgraded one station to the Hewlett Packard LaserJet 1200se. It is fast and produces reasonably good quality print. But the print is not as dark as we would like, and after several months we have been unable to find a way to improve it. Frequent paper jams require removing the toner cartridge to clear, and since the cartridge may be damaged by direct light, we have to try to improvise a "darkroom" situation in an office with skylights. Also, the paper jams can scratch the drum in the cartridge, leaving us the choice of poor copy quality or frequent new toner cartridges. We trusted the HP brand but are sorely disappointed with the 1200se.

HP rides again - great printer, great value,
By
This review is from: HP LaserJet 1200se Printer (Office Product)
This is more like it. I've been an HP fan since the days of the LaserJetII, and it's been painful to see them deliver duds galore in the world of inkjets. This little toy is fast, efficient (I've cranked out thousands of pages, and I'm still on my first cartridge), easy and cheap - and the print quality is excellent. The design is cuddly in a very non-HP way (they must have looked at Steve Jobs' designs when they did this one - not a straight line in sight). My only complaint is the overall product sturdiness: the panel for cable access has to be more or less be broken off rather than opened; once you've done so, the rest of the printer sort of unravels, and until you whack it back together the printer will go on strike intermittenly because it thinks you've left the top open. Be clear: this is a plasticized semi-disposable sort of printer for individual use - not a $5K network printer intended to take a real beating. It probably won't last forever, but at this price, it's a great, great deal.

Does not work sufficiently with Mac OS X,
By Honest Review (Alexandria, VA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HP LaserJet 1200se Printer (Office Product)
I've had this printer for a year. I have both a Mac running OS X and a PC running Windows XP. This printer is flawless with Windows XP, but doesn't even work sufficiently with Mac OS X. If I attempt to print from Adobe on my Mac, the printer takes 30 minutes for a single page. If I try to print a web page it will take 15 minutes per page and sometimes print screen shots rather than the web page. The Mac works fine with other HP printers, but the 1200 SE is a complete bust. No matter what software or solutions I try, the HP 1200 SE will not work properly with the Mac running OS X. I'm very dissappointed with this product. HP promised a solution 12 months ago. Apparently, that was a lie by HP and now I have a printer that can't be returned. I will never buy another HP printer as a result of this experience.

Nowhere near the LaserJet Series II,
By Sandra "sugarjo" (Laguna Hills, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HP LaserJet 1200se Printer (Office Product)
I bought this because I LOVED my old LaserJet Series II. Not I am getting ready to buy a Brother. I haven't had the luck others seem to have had. I have three problems with this printer:1. Paper curl. It will spit pages off the top on large jobs sometimes and not other times. I print large jobs. I don't want to have to watch it. 2. Runs VERY hot, which probably contributes to the curling. 3. Not straight. If I print onto my letterhead which has horizontal lines, it's crooked. And there is no way to get it to line up without several trial and erros. What I usually do is just print my letter head on my Brother fax so it's straight. Also, same problem with lining up labels. Those I also print on my fax. I like my Brother fax so much, hence I am going to by a Brother 9700 multifunction to replace this. Yes, the print quality is great. I imagine if I spent more money on a higher end model, it would solve my problems, but I fortunately don't have to.

What a waste of paper,
By
This review is from: HP LaserJet 1200se Printer (Office Product)
This printer has great print quality, I must admit. Also does okay with going a while before a new cartridge is needed. However, about every 7 or 8 print jobs it will feed multiple pages. It jams so badly that the cartridge has to be removed and I've actually torn the stuck paper trying to get it out, working a piece at a time. Not good for the printer, or for all the paper I've had to throw away! My coworker has the same printer and the same problem, so I don't think it's a defect.
