i have been in the market for a laptop computer for a few years now, however I was hesitant to buy one, because of the slower processors and ram for my budget range. this computer, however seemed to be a good deal price wise so i figured i would give it a shot.

pros
beautiful screen
nice sleek blue finish
intergrated webcam and microphone
keyboard is comfortable to use
decent speakers

cons
windows 8, yes i repeat WINDOWS 8. there is a huge learning curve with this software, things aren't arranged on this operating system like it was in the days of xp and me, 95 and windows 98. things are scattered everywhere.
there IS a desktop application that looks LIKE what your used to however, it doesn't function exactly the same.
you need to watch alot of videos on youtube and search online forums to learn about navigation around the operating system.
there are apps, (smilar to iphone screen) where you can access things like games, netflix, iheart radio, there are literally tons of apps, and most are very impressive. (or at least so far). as of this writing i have only had the laptop for 2 days.
i'm just now starting to get used to how this operating system works.
-not enough ram.

this system, believe it or not, doesn't ship with much CRAPWARE. crapware is basically all that junk big pc makers put on a computer..free trials, etc stuff that you don't want or need. this pc came with VERY LITTLE.
It came with NORTON INTERNET SECURITY Preinstalled, and i've always disliked norton products so immediately after i set up the computer off to norton's website i went and downloaded their REMOVAL tool. i use avast antivirus. it's free and works well.

Maybe I'm biased because my old laptop was literally falling apart, but I love this laptop. It works quickly and efficiently. It's very organized. I wasn't willing to spend an insane amount on a computer just to surf the web. I have had incredibly good luck with HP products. I would advise anyone looking to purchase a simple laptop to give this one a shot.

This is a very fast computer and has all the latest versions of software...love it! It was my husbands anniversary present for him to use at meetings. It is self-contained with camera and Windows 8 which I found to be very user friendly.

I needed to replace an aging laptop and while I wasn't excited about moving from Windows XP to 8, it has not been as bad as I had thought it would. I was able to import all of my old settings using Microsoft's Easy Transfer program and external USB drive and finally managed to import all of my old Outlook Express email messages by getting Microsoft's free Essentials Live Mail as a replacement for the out of the box Windows 8 Mail program. I purchased a third party tool to add back the Windows 7 start button (if you can wait for 8.1 you can do without the $5 add on).

This laptop comes with 4 GB RAM and seems a little slow to me. Not terrible, but I went ahead and ordered more RAM. The motherboard on this machine only supports a max 8 GB RAM and I wish I had known that HP had configured this with a 4 GB RAM module in one socket with the other free. I could have just bought a 4 GB RAM module to add in, but it doesn't hurt to have a matched set of RAM and I would not have known the exact specs of the RAM chip that HP had in this laptop.

Overall a nice performer - the screen is big and decent color. The track pad gets in my way and it is nice to be able to just double click on the top left and turn it off. The options to swipe from edge to edge and change from one open app to another annoyed me too - that can also be turned off in the track pad options if you want.

The 1 year parts and service warranty is nearly worth the price of the laptop alone in my opinion.

UPDATE: After a few weeks of use, I'm still okay with the quality and performance. The one thing I really don't like is the limited screen resolution. I thought maybe there would be an updated video driver or something, but it really is just limited to two screen settings. Not terrible, but kinda surprising with the state of the art that it would be such a minimal choice of screen resolution.

This computer exhibited several small problems almost from the moment I purchased it, but the real trouble started exactly a year and two days after I purchased it (in other words, as soon as the warranty for receiving customer service ran out) when my computer couldn't find my wireless internet connection. At this time, I called the scam artists at HP customer support. The first person I talked to immediately informed me that my warranty was dead and that if I wanted to speak to him at all, I had to renew it for the price of $99. He claimed that this would give me access to HP customer service for one year. I agreed and gave him my credit card information. After trying several small, obvious fixes that I had already tried myself such as rebooting the computer and tapping the wireless key on the keyboard, the customer service representative said that he would have to remotely I access my computer which required internet. He asked me if I had an ethernet cable so I could connect to the internet. I did, but I couldn't find it at that moment, so I told the representative that I would have to call HP back.

The next day, having found the cable, I called HP. At that time, the representative immediately informed me that my warranty was dead and that I should purchase HP customer service for a year for $99. I told her that I had just purchased customer service the day before. She said that I hadn't. I argued with her. She kept pretending to try to find record of my payment in the system and told me that there was no record of my having paid any money to HP or purchasing anything whatsoever. I was transferred to four different people, all of whom supposedly performed the same check and all of whom told me the same thing.
