More money than worth,

I bought this drive back in December. I was looking for a decent DVD-RW, Lightscribe was just a bonus. Barely did any burning at all, mostly wanted a DVD-Rom to replace my crappy Phillips one.
Well about 2 weeks ago I noticed the icon on my quickstart for the CD/DC-Rom was showing no cd available which is false considering there is always a disc in there. Turns out it comes online when I start the PC, shows in the BIOS as being there. Windows recognizes it is there. Sadly the drive just stopped spinning up. Even tried to install it in a spare comp to see if it was my PC. So in short grab this if you want a cheap temp solution, but that is all it is. Also I am very disgruntled with HP. Their idea of support was to tell me to update windows, the only drivers are the windows default drivers, and of course my drive was out of warranty. Oh and they told me to install it in another PC AFTER telling them everything I did above.

I purchased this item to replace the drive in my HP computer. I was refurbishing the tower to pass on to my grandchildren. The unit worked well and satisfied the needs they had.

Just a brief a comment or two. The drive itself is fine. Does what it is supposed to do. However, the software that accompanies the drive is a 30 day trial and is frankly... abysmal. Installation is tedious, badly impacted the performance of a good machine, and the audio didn't work. Uninstalling the SW was equally painful... install/uninstall took almost 40 minutes.
Be forewarned... If you don't have a DVD codec on your machine, you will need to purchase one. HP provides no drivers, has no drivers available for download, and provides very little help on their website for this product.
