4.0 out of 5 stars Better than the regular size cartridge
I purchased my printer in February 2009 and I believe that I have had to replace the regular size black ink cartridge at least three times. I would say that my print load is average. This time (the third time) I decided to get the XL size. I put it in April 10th and now (May 10th) the ink level is at 3/4. I am sure that with the regular size catridge I would be getting...

3.0 out of 5 stars Ink is the necessary evil
The biggest complaint for personal inkjets is well.. ink. It's always expensive and you feel like you are spending the lionshare of your purchase on the fancy packaging and plastic delivery mechanism. We use our printer for casual use and a decent amount of photo 4x6 printing. These XL inks definitely last longer than the std versions that shipped with the printer,...

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than the regular size cartridge, May 10, 2009

I purchased my printer in February 2009 and I believe that I have had to replace the regular size black ink cartridge at least three times. I would say that my print load is average. This time (the third time) I decided to get the XL size. I put it in April 10th and now (May 10th) the ink level is at 3/4. I am sure that with the regular size catridge I would be getting ready to change the cartridge again. I also like that the price via amazon was significantly cheaper than purchasing from staples or target. And it arrived quickly. I recommend using the XL no matter what, so that you don't have to change so often. I also recommend this vendor based on my experience with them.

4.0 out of 5 stars An HP cartridge that actually lasts, June 28, 2009

The starter cartridges that came with my HP C309a All-In-One were the standard 564 cartridges, which only lasted a couple weeks -- and I don't even print that much. I replaced the regular black cartridge with a 564XL, and even after a couple weeks of my usual (occasional) printing, the ink gauge is still at around 85%.

HP inks aren't cheap, but even worse is having to buy them so frequently -- I usually run out right before I need to print something important. The XL cartridge is a good value and lasts a good long time. This should be the standard HP inkjet cartridge.

The biggest complaint for personal inkjets is well.. ink. It's always expensive and you feel like you are spending the lionshare of your purchase on the fancy packaging and plastic delivery mechanism. We use our printer for casual use and a decent amount of photo 4x6 printing. These XL inks definitely last longer than the std versions that shipped with the printer, and yellow always seems to go first. But they work as advertised, and never last as long as you want them to. We've had our printer for 2 years and replaced inks once a year now.

The colors seem to pop when using the special 4x6 papers and drying time is very fast. I haven't seen any fading in pictures that were printed 2 yrs ago with these inks, and they are advertised to not fade, so i guess its working as advertised.

This is a warning to buyers of this product. First HP has changed the size of this cartridge, it is now half the size that it was a few months ago, so if you buy it you are now getting half as much ink as you used to. Second none of the sellers of this product on the Amazon website are advising buyers about the fact that you are now paying and will be receiving a cartridge that is half the size of the old one. Third if you want the best price deal it is no longer on Amazon but rather HP is now selling it directly from its own website at a considerably cheaper price.

For HP printers that take this cartridge - know that this is the larger black cartridge. The smaller one is the photo black ink cartridge.

As others have stated, better check closely on just what you expect to receive.
Some advertise the old package (3X pages cartridge) CB321WN#140 for $29.99, but they ship you the newer (2X pages cartridge) CN684WN which sells for $22.99. They rip you off by putting a sticker on the CN684WN that says CN321WN and ship you the new cartridge at the old CN321 price of $29.99. If I ever order ink through Amazon again, it sure won't be something sold by them for CDE. The supplier knew they did this and should have adjusted the price, but did not. I can buy that cartridge locally for less than on Amazon. Buyer be aware is all I can say.

Office Depot and Office Max sell the 564XL for $10.00 less than what Amazon.com charges. At the time of review this ink cartridge cost ($32.00). I wish I had checked those places earlier than buying from Amazon

1.0 out of 5 stars Boycott HP printers and products, July 6, 2011

This review is from: HP 564XL Black Ink Cartridge (CB321WN#140) (Office Product)
I am so upset right now -- I will never buy any HP product again. The mis-information re: the HP B209a-m printer and the 564xl printer cartridge is completely unacceptable. I am a very busy person -- so I bought FOUR 564xl black printer cartridges (the skinny ones -- the WRONG ones, apparently) so I would have them ready when I needed them. Of course, it's midnight when my current cartdridge spits outs its last readable page, and when I try to replace it with the skinny 564xl -- that says IS compatible on the package (and all over the 2nd-tier printer cartridge web sites -- it doesn't fit. Of course.

I'm sure just one little person boycotting HP will not put a dent into their bottom line -- despite how many printer cartridges I go through a year -- but I just cannot in good conscience buy another HP product. I guess I will have to sell this printer on Craig's List or eBay, because I flat out refuse to buy a product from a company that can't get it together enough to label the **bleep** cartridges accurately!

No more HP ANYTHING for me -- EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars CNE seller shipped HP 564XL (CN684WN#140) with CB321WN sticker, June 18, 2011

Cn684wn replaces cb321wn, the problem is the replacement provides 2/3 of the inc and costs about 2/3 of the price (~ $20)! CNE put a sticker on and sells it at the original price($30), kind of fraudulent!

1.0 out of 5 stars This used to be a great printer for the money, June 9, 2011

One of the reasons I purchased an HP printer was the 800 page ink jet cartridge. The larger cartridge seemed to print close to the 800 pages promised and the price wasn't too bad. HP is now offering a reduced version of the XL cartridge however, I don't believe this cartridge actually prints the 550 pages promised (and I use economy printing most of the time). Although the price has been reduced, I seem to be spending more money for ink jets. I am very disappointed about this extra expense and as my printer is on it's last leg, when it dies, I will be purchasing a NON-HP brand. I am also disappointed about HP's labeling of the ink jet box...instead of listing the number of pages a cartridge prints, they give you a website to look up the information. I do not carry a internet phone or an I-touch, so I do not have access to this information as I'm standing in a store. On this webpage the printing volume is listed as both 550 and 800 pages (Amazon's information is correct)...truth in advertising should apply to all products sold. I think it is unethical to list a website instead of the actual printing capacity on the outside of the box. I know what I'm getting when I buy a gallon of milk, I should know what I'm getting when I buy an ink jet cartridge!
