5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome.
This is a great printer for many basic print jobs. I was tired of replacing ink every 3 months on my ink jet printer and all I wanted was a printer that printed b/w so I could print out maps, shipping labels, etc. This printer is great! No problems at all, its fast, the print is crystal clear and the price is cheap! It does not print photos at all but I was able to print...

1.0 out of 5 stars too stripped down for most uses
I bought this printer recently much to my regret. It does not have the typical "stop print" and "reset" buttons that most HP and Dell printers have...only "on/off." That means you have reboot your whole system when the printer hangs up (which it frequently does). If I run out of paper in the middle of a print job, it often can't tell if I've put paper in, so it stays in...

4.0 out of 5 stars The newer model is cheaper, better (p1006), May 21, 2009

This is a sturdy little printer and I bought it to travel with me. It's so nice to have a laser printer for business and it's plenty fast. It also works on Mac's as well as Windoze XP

But, it's more expensive than the newer P1006, which has more features and 4 times more RAM. The new one is only slightly faster, but a little heaver.

And, while the new P1006 lists for $180, its selling for under $100 street price. HP ships it OVERNIGHT for free, but you pay sales tax. Amazon uses a New York company, so you pay shipping and tax.

You can't go wrong with this printer. It's ideal for traveling sales people, lawyers, and students.

5.0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!, August 6, 2008
This review is from: HP P1005 Laserjet Printer (Office Product)
I have owned this great little workhorse for a little over a month now. Didn't buy it from Amazon, but from HP directly for $49.99 with free shipping! I have put this printer to many a test, and it always performs very well. Does not crumple or mess the paper up like a lot of other cheap laser printers out there. I have it connected to my Apple Airport Extreme wireless router and it was a breeze setting this up to work on my home network which consists of an Imac, a macbookPro, and a windows Xp desktop. It is extremely quiet while printing and is quick. The best part is its small size. One could say it even looks cute!!

I bought this printer to save some money on ink cartridges, and to print on some very thin paper that inkjet ink showed through. So far, I am very happy with the performance of this printer. I didn't want a laser printer with a lot of features, just a simple machine that I could print on various size paper. I've not had any technical issues to speak of. It's worked perfectly every time.

The only problem I had was with some information I was given. Online I chatted with an HP rep on their site. I asked whether the Bluetooth BT-500 adapter would work with this machine. I wanted to be able to print using my laptop. She assured me it would work because it had a USB port. So I ordered the adapter as well. However, not one minute after opening the box I realized that the TYPE of USB port on the printer was not the same as the adapter. I was disappointed that a rep designated to answer questions about printers didn't know the difference between the various types of USB ports. I would expect them to at least have some reference material that tells what is compatible. I did try to find something online about this compatibility, but could find none.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good little printer, July 7, 2009

Although it doesn't have enough buttons, it works well. My wife has managed to print manual-duplex over the network using Network Printer Sharing.

There is one little trick though, since there is no continue button, the only way to let the printer know you have fed paper in is to slightly lift up the access to the printer cartridge (the gray bit of plastic on top) and put it back in place. The printer will resume printing, and if you had placed your printed paper face down, it should print on the reverse side.

4.0 out of 5 stars The HP P1005 Laserjet, December 12, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HP P1005 Laserjet Printer (Office Product)
The P1005 is my first laserjet printer so I'm not too familiar with them. The printing is really beautiful and fast. I'm really satisfied with it with one exception. I use it mostly for labels and often run the sheets thru it several times. The print is fine but it also puts a very fine spray of toner over the whole sheet. It's undetectable with one pass but the sheets get darker with each pass and I have to cut masks to keep the unused labels "clean". I didn't have this problem with my inkjet printers and it's very aggrevating and takes a lot of extra time. It is otherwise excellent.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not ready for MAC OS 10.6.2, January 2, 2010
This review is from: HP P1005 Laserjet Printer (Office Product)
I have spent many hours on the phone with apple, and HP and still can not get this cheap printer to work. Installing the latest 1.2.0.224 driver the printer was recognized, but print job hangs. HP and apple support so far are unable to explain. Jan. 2, 2010. Next time I will buy the brand in the apple store that works. You just can not trust the HP website. Does not work with OS 10.6.2 ,using airport extreme router. MAC compatible products usually are a simple no brainer install. This was not. There may be a reason that the price keeps dropping. Good luck Windows 7 users.

2.0 out of 5 stars Warning for Windows 7 Users - Drivers Unavailable, October 27, 2009

Don't buy this printer until the drivers for Windows 7 come out. HP is behind on creating drivers for Windows 7. It worked great in Vista, and I assume the same for XP. I am kind of angry that HP was not prepared with drivers for this printer. So, if you have Windows 7, stay clear of this printer (and make sure the drivers are available for Windows 7 for other HP printers) until late November, 2009, when they say they will have the drivers.

The Laserjet P1005 is a great value for the money. A basic B&W printer.
I got rid of my old printer because of the cost of multiple ink cartridges.
Set up was complicated (my fault) because there was still something inside, under the cartridge...that was packing material! But was easy to trouble shoot/set up my contacting HP support on line and by phone. Save your receipt and have the date of purchase ready when you call HP...so your warranty can be in effect.
