This is probably the best value you can currently get for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 printers if you decide to stay with the officially approved cartridge. Its 1400-page rating is more than 50% that of the HP 940 Magenta Officejet Ink Cartridge (C4904AN) but it costs only a little more. Definitely preferred even for a casual user because, unless you use your printer as a fashion statement or status symbol in the office, you ARE going to have to replace a 900-page cartridge, sooner or later.

The 1,400 page rating is based on HP's testing methodology meaning that it's highly unlikely that you will get 1,400 pages out of your cartridge. If you make copies, if you print photos, if you use the high quality settings you are going to run out of ink much sooner but the fact remains that you do get a lot more ink in this cartridge than in the 'regular' one.

HP claims (couldn't verify) that using Officejet inks on papers with the ColorLok logo the output will retain color quality 'for decades'. Such an ink/paper combination, according to HP, will produce documents that resist water and fading.

Must buy the XL for any of the ink cartridges....especially if you do a lot of color coping...very satisfied

The printer ink that I purchased is a very good product and the price was reasonable.

This ink is for my new printer that is my first HP printer that has separated the ink jets from the ink and made both accessible. That makes it the best buy I've had for HP ink. Great service and a great product.

The HP 940XL Ink Cartridge provides a lot of pages for the money in my HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-In-One Printer. We use our printer every day, having two teens in school and both my wife and I doing work from home, so we can use up a standard size cartridge fairly quickly. Since we don't like to use 3rd party inks, these high volume cartridges are the best value for us.

No shell games - product is a brandnew HP product as described. Still over priced for what you get, but that is an HP issue.

Before you purchase HP ink or printers, be warned that there is a chip in them that automatically "expires" them - that's what happened to this one. They also expire if you use the ink or not. I used black ink only for a year, and the printer would not print unless I kept replacing the color cartridges as well. I bought the magenta one a few months ahead of time, and it the printer refuses to recognize it, so I wasted $25 and missed the return window. There was a successful lawsuit against HP's practices regarding ink and printer settings but I was too late to be reimbursed for $150 worth of ink and a faulty printer: www dot hpinkjetprintersettlement dot com

This was a fantastic buy, as these XL cartridges are long life, and they have been increasing in price in price over the last few years - I am quite pleased with this item.

Genuine Ink that has given me no issue at all. This stuff last forever. I bought this thinking that I would need it soon when my OfficeJet 8500 was getting low on magenta, but I didn't end up needing to use if for a few weeks even. Great Product!!

These extra large cartridges lived up to advertised reputation. However my HP 8000 wireless printer only lasted a year and seemed to start jamming immediately after the one year warranty expired. When it worked, it worked great so I purchased another one and will continue buying these XL cartridges for them.
