The speakers are louder than my laptop speakers alone. However, I had the original HP compact speakers (version 1.0, I'm assuming), and those were originally MUCH louder for the first few months that I had them. The only reason why I got these is because my other minispeakers were dying after a year of overuse. The 2.0 version is designed aesthetically better than the original--the speakers stand up on their own quite well, whereas the 1.0 version fell over a lot (which wasn't a big deal or anything)--but at least for me, the 2.0 version is not nearly as loud as the original. It's hardly louder than my computer on its own. And no, my hearing isn't just becoming impaired ;)

All I needed was a set of very small speakers for my office computer. I had very little space and these little guys fit perfectly. The sound quality is great and I love them. My only quibble is there's no external volume control on the speakers themselves. Other than that, I am very pleased with them.

I was looking for inexpensive speakers for my desktop. I don't need super high quality.... I just need decent speakers without spending a lot of money. This product fits the need very well. They're actually better quality than I thought they'd be. I listen to Pandora occasionally on my desktop and the music sounds pretty good. We're not going to be winning any "Hi-Fi Speaker Contests", but they still sound pretty good. I also like that they're very small and don't take up much space on my already-too-small desk!

excellent speakers, especially for laptops. there is no A/C plugin, it goes by USB which makes this item more moveable, and easier to travel with if you are taking your laptop on the go!
