ripper
When unit was first plugged into the compaq a900 laptop, the unit became very hot to touch. Next morning I plugged it back in and so far the overheating of the unit is gone. Not sure why that happened but it has subsided.

Completely Compatable with hp5040us. Did Not Last
This adapter worked perfectly with my HP Pavilion dv5040us. Adapter is not HP brand, but that is apparent in the description. After a few months of moderate use, the cord that carries power to the laptop, shorted, i replaced the cord but the adapter itself was fried.

Worked great but less than 2 weeks after the 30 day warranty the cord blew - really blew and sparked as it totally broke off and made a slight burn mark on the couch. Decided to go with an original HP battery/cord and it works perfectly. Will not buy this generic again and would not recommend it.
