4.0 out of 5 stars Small Footprint Desktop Printer
Installation is easy and the print is great. I don't recommend installing the automatic updater as it interfered with the operation of my Internet Explorer and I had to shut off this feature for IE to work properly again.

The installation went OK, it prints fast, nice color- but after only 2 weeks the ink supply is half gone. I'm not sure if they put full-capacity cartridges in the new units. I bought this printer to replace my trusty old HP 720c. I suspect that HP keeps raising the price of cartridges on the older models, to force people to buy new printers. The price of the 720c cartridges doubled since I bought it 6 years ago. The ink cartridges on the D4360 are half the size of my old 720c cartridges, and I suspect that these cheap HP printers are just a pipeline in disquise for selling mass quantities of ink, because that's probably where their real profit is.. In comparison, my 720c cartridges would last almost a year. Bottom line, if the HP D4360 printer used less ink, I'd give it 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive home/office printer., June 12, 2009

This review is from: HP D4360 DeskJet Printer (Office Product)
I'm using this printer exclusively for home and office paper work not for photo or pictures. My printing needs are approximately 3 x 500 = 1500 single sided pages a year. This will require 2 "XL" sets of color and black cartridges annually. Price efficiency of cartridge is average. Considering current market prices for cartridges approximately $30 for a set you are probably locking at 5 - 6 cents per single page print.
Buying this printer on the internet - make sure that you are asking seller if USB2 cable is included. Brand new in original box printers are not always contain USB2 cable.

This inexpensive reliable printer provides good quality prints. Installation and manual are clear and easy to follow. Display - Ink level in cartridges, is a very nice feature. The cartridges included in HP original box are not "XL" size and good for 200 pages only, but cartridges "XL" sizes are available for up to 750 pages.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too bad I can't rate this 0 stars, June 29, 2009
This review is from: HP D4360 DeskJet Printer (Office Product)
My low end Epson printer died after outliving it's life expectancy by two years. Desperate for an immediate replacement I opted for the HP Deskjet D4360. It's strong points, it's cheap and... ummm, that's all I can come up with. The negatives... for starters, it's a bottom feeder, in oh so many ways. Forget about printing labels, envelopes, custom forms, anything other than a standard sheet of ink jet paper will not feed through. You WILL be learning how to unjam this printer in the first day, guaranteed. The paper feed is underneath the output tray, making it very awkward to load. The page size adjuster is positioned under the lip of the output tray, designed for long, slender fingers and if it's not adjusted exactly, the page will pull sideways and print off the page. Have templates set up to streamline your work? Forget them because this printer stretches out your document when it prints meaning it'll never hit within your templates' parameters. And the ink cartridges, they're tiny... and the color cartridge is exactly the same size as the black & white cartridge. The black draws ink from the color so you're going to know your office supply person by his first name, and helping to pay his child's tuition. Expect an invitation to the kid's graduation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Capable for Home User, August 14, 2009
This review is from: HP D4360 DeskJet Printer (Office Product)
I purchased this printer to replace a failed HP 920c that had far exceeded its expected useful life. That was a factor in selecting another HP model. I was looking for an inexpensive printer that does nothing but print (i.e. not an all-in-one), and this fits that requirement perfectly.

Installation went smoothly and quickly; up and running within 15 minutes. I heeded the advice of other reviewers and did not install the updater. So far, no problems with conflicts. Thanks for the tip.

Print quality is excellent, both B/W and color, and significantly faster that my old 920c. I've had no problems printing labels or envelops, and the printer seems to handle heavy card stock (110 lb) and photo paper with ease. The printer come with both B/W and color ink cartridges, although they are "starter" sizes, and will deplete quickly. (For replacements, I've had good luck with Cartridge World cartriges, about $17 for the triple capacity.)

Several reviewers have downrated this printer because it does not come with a USB cable. To those people I say, first, quit your whining; why would you think it would come with a cable. Most printers I've purchased do not. And second, most people have a spare USB cable laying around the house anyway, and for those who don't, just order the cable when you order the printer. (Belkin 10' for under $7 from Amazon.)

This printer was a good buy for me. If you're a very high volume user or if you're looking for an office printer, this is not the one for you. You'll have to spend a few more bucks. But for a typical home user, this is perfect.

UPDATE ON NOVEMBER 4, 2009 - After using this printer for three months, I'm still quite pleased with it. It has only jammed once. The only other problem I've had is with an ink cartridge; the printer detected a problem with the cartridge--it didn't specify what the problem was--and refused to print. Other printers would continue to print with just the remaining cartridge. I tried to remove and reinstall the cartridge a couple times with no luck, and finally replaced the cartridge with a new one. That resolved the problem; it was probably just empty. The offending cartridge was a Cartridge World product which I've had good luck with in the past. That said, this printer seems to be very touchy about the cartridges you install, for example, if you install re-filled cartriges, it will not display estimated ink levels, either on the guages on the front of the printer or in the software tools. This is not a big deal to me, as the aftermarket cartridges generally perform well, and I alway have a spare on hand.

I've not encountered any problems that would prompt me to downrate this printer from my initial review.

4.0 out of 5 stars HP Deskject D4360 ... Driver installs but not rest of the software...., March 15, 2009

Nice printer. Prints pretty good. Couldn't install all of the software, but the driver installed at least. So, don't be alarmed if the installation software stops with an error message. Just check to see if it prints because that's all you should want at the very minimum. It does print. Comes with printed setup instructions and reference guide but no printed manual. I did not see any PDF manual files on the installation CD. I had to go to the HP website to find the PDF manual files for this printer.

2.0 out of 5 stars Short term - great; long term - no, September 18, 2010

This review is from: HP D4360 DeskJet Printer (Office Product)
We bought this exactly two years ago. It has been a great little home printer. I print about one page/day on average. It does use a fair amount of ink, but a printer is only an ink delivery system, right? Two weeks ago I would have given this model 4 1/2 stars. However....I turned it on one day and it simply would not print and the paper would feed halfway through and stop. My husband and I put probably four hours into it trying to figure it out. We tried everything and between us we are pretty good figurers. The HP Solution Center that comes with the software seemed to answer everything but our situation. Finally, I had time to call HP's 800-number. I was quite pleased to get a live person very quickly. But then I realized her English knowledge was very limited and who knows what country she was in. She asked me if I had tried about three very minor things, which I had. Then without going particularly deep into "here's what you can try to fix it," her training had obviously told her to stop there and give me this great answer: we'll give you a discount on this particular new model and it will only cost you $80 (later I saw Amazon sold the same thing for $55). I told her I really like the printer and want to get it fixed. It boils down to this....if it is out of warranty, it goes to the dump. I told her how environmentally irresponsible it is of HP to operate this way. I doubt she understood me because she only kept repeating the $80 offer. I told her she had done a good job, but I was very unimpressed with HP. My husband pulled the D4360 apart more since we had nothing to lose and found broken plastic gears. It is toast. So short-term, it's a good printer; long-term, America will have a lot of printers in its landfills.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too much software!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Caused me a service call!!, March 28, 2010

This review is from: HP D4360 DeskJet Printer (Office Product)
Well, I am mostly pleased with the printing although the "draft" mode produces funky looking (almost like italics)lines of print interspersed throughout the documents. The printer is also rather finicky with regard to feeding paper. The paper which I was using successfully in my old HP and Canon printers will not feed in the D4360; fortunately I had a pack of HP paper which feeds very well. The ink supply does seem to be going down rather quickly; although I haven't really printed enough sheets to comment on ink usage.
Now for my BIG complaint. About 4 weeks after I installed my HP D4360, my computer slowed to a crawl, and then it would not allow me to do anything. I could not open my Word or Excel documents nor access email. Since the printer had been installed 4 weeks before, I never suspected it as the cause of the problem. I hired a computer service man to find out what was causing my problem. After finding out that my temp register had over 32,000 files, we deleted them; my computer started working again. But where did they come from? The temp register started filling up again!! ...16,000 files in a few hours! To make a long story longer, we discovered an HP file (hpqtra08.exe) constantly running in the background ..... creating temp files. I called HP tech support, and they told me I could uninstall the HP Digital Imaging software, and that would get rid of hpqtra08. I was told that this software was for the scanner in an all-in-one printer. They had no good reason as to why HP downloaded this software for my D4360 since it has no scanner. Nor did they seem inclined to offer me anything to help defray the cost of a service call which cost more than the printer. Well, now I got that off my chest!
If you do buy a HP D4360 and start having computer problems, I hope this is helpful. HP D4360 DeskJet Printer

Initial download took hours and several tries. Had many desktop printers in the past that initalized in less than 15 minutes. This printer software had to be loaded three times. After more than two hours, the printer was established.

No problems after the initial download. The printer is fast and quiet. The photos are good quality. This printer is used for personal use.HP D2560 Deskjet Printer

My old HP printer played out and really like my new D4360!

Installation was a SNAP! Didn't install the automatic updater from reading other reviews.. thanks guys!

Someone said there is no instruction manual. All the info anyone would need is available by going to Start, HP.

Same someone, said it wouldn't work with home network. It works perfect with my home network.

Love that USB inlet jack on the front of the Printer. I use it to upload from my camera to my computer. I would have had to purchased a USB hub had it not had the USB jack!

The printer is much faster than my old one.

I'm sure there is only a small amount of ink as that is common with all new printers. I also ordered the 74XL-75XL combo printer cartridge for $40. And a USB cable.

As in the past, the free shipping was FAST. It was 2 days from when it was shipped.
Again, Amazon did great.
