Length:: 1:32 Mins

When Slide Show Interval is set to 1 minute, the frame works fine. When Slide Show Interval is set to 1 hour, Everything seems fine, then when the hour was up, the photos began to switch at a rate of about 1 photo / second. I figured I must have a bad frame, so I exchanged it. The replacement did the exact same thing, leading me to believe the firmware is buggy. This is sloppy quality control, and not what I would expect from the name HP. I tried to call HP technical support on the long shot that they had a simple, quick fix for me. After navigating a computerized menu for 15 minutes because digital frames are not even in the product catalog (or their website), I kept hitting "0" until an agent came on the phone. I obviously got a call center in India and had real communication problems from the start. The agent insisted on my name and phone number, since it was necessary to start a "Customer Profile" before I could be handed off to technical support. At this point I thanked the agent and told her I would be returning the product and no further conversation was necessary. BOTTOM LINE: FIRMWARE IS BUGGY, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor interface, bugs, July 2, 2008
By
JBL (Mountain View, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HP DF800 8-Inch High Resolution Digital Picture Frame with Remote (Electronics)
I bought this frame at a local Fry's because it seemed to have the best image quality. It has shows some banding in areas with slow gradients (e.g., the sky) but overall the image quality is decent for one of these frames (although I don't understand why they can't make one as good as a cheep notebook screen).

However, after getting it home I found a bunch of interface problems and some sort of buggy behavior. First, you cannot load pictures onto the directly from a Mac, you have to use a PC. Okay, I have a PC. Second, I couldn't load pictures directly from a PC. The instructions say that connecting it to a PC with a USB cable results in it showing up as three drives, internal memory, slot 1 and slot 2 (why all three show up if you don't have a card in either slot I can't say). I did this. They did show up (although not labeled so that you can't tell which is the internal memory). Then they showed up again. Then, after about 30 seconds, they disappeared. After about a minute of Windows telling me that devices had been attached and unattached I found I could not access the frame from the computer.

Luckily, you can put pictures on a USB flash drive and attach that to the frame. You can even transfer the pictures from USP (or a memory card) to the internal memory... one at a time. That's right, there is no way to tell it to transfer all your pictures, you have to select them one at a time and five or six button presses later, they are in the frame's internal memory! You have to wonder why they bothered including internal memory at all. As far as I can see, the only way to use the frame is with your pictures on a memory card or USB drive.

Other minor issues: the calendar and clock are in a really ugly blue on blue theme. If a picture doesn't fill the frame, the unfilled part is black but the "matte" is white. And you can't select which pictures on a memory card are displayed.

HP Lite-On Df800 8-Inch High Resolution Digital Picture Frame with RemoteA wonderful product in all aspects, EXCEPT in the slideshow mode it plays the files from the latest to the earliest. Who would want to view wedding photos showing the couple driving off, before they are even married? The only way to change the order is to renumber the files, an awsome job if you have 200+.

5.0 out of 5 stars Df800, July 24, 2008
This review is from: HP DF800 8-Inch High Resolution Digital Picture Frame with Remote (Electronics)
I actually got the Df800 digital picture frame as a gift for my wife. She really likes it because it is so easy to view her favorite pictures now. I loaded a few pictures on an SD card, plugged it into the Df800 and turned it on. After a few menu selections, we were viewing a slideshow. The pictures are bright and vibrant. Two minor issues occurred. First, after awhile some of the pictures seemed to get corrupted. I'm not sure if there was a problem with putting them on the SD card, or the Df800 did it. The problem was quickly corrected by reloading the bad pics and using the lock switch on the SD card. Problem solved. Second, the remote control holder seems to hold onto the remote better than it does the picture frame. When you grab the remote, the holder comes with it. Perhaps I assembled it incorrectly. Anyhow, we don't really use the remote so it just sits on the back of the frame. All in all, this is a great product, and given the need, I'd purchase it again.

1.0 out of 5 stars THE SLIDESHOW SHOWS PICTURES BACKWARDS, December 2, 2008
This review is from: HP DF800 8-Inch High Resolution Digital Picture Frame with Remote (Electronics)
The slideshow shows the pictures backwards, in reverse chronological order, according to Date Modified. It ignores the file name. I tested this over and over. It will dislay the picture you took last first, and the picture you took first last. So if it's a trip, you'll see the end of the trip, though the trip backwards through to the beginning of the trip. There is no option to get around it, other than if you only want to watch you pictures "shuffled" in random order. Otherwise there is a problem in the 'firmware' in the display, the play backward. The proof of this too, is there are 9 sample pictures that come with the display in internal memory numbered 1 through 9. The 'Date Modified' of picture 9 is first, picture 8 is 1 minute, later, picture 7 date is 1 minute later and so on... to picture 1 which is the oldest date... when slideshow displays.... this backwards dating 1 minute apart .. forces the 9 slides to display in the proper order 1 through 9... so obviously HP knew they had a problem with the firmware... and rather than fix the firware... the backward dated there little 9 slide slideshow 1 minute apart..... my comment on that is... shame on HP for such a 'get it to market' stunt ... this firmware update should be out there and easily accessible... I'm working with support to get such a firmware update... that apparently the support people aren't even well up on.... but it's impossible to miss... and they must have sold a ton of these....

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good for the money, September 7, 2008

I bought this item as a gift for my husbands grandmother. It has incredible image quality. The shuffle image and menu's are easy to use, even if you are only a little computer/tech savvy. The only real issue is that the internal memmory of 128 meg is way too small. If you take high quality resolutions images with your digital camera, then it barely holds 40 pictures. I overcame this by installing a 1 Gig Scandisk card, then transfered all images from a USB Thumbdrive onto the Scandisk Card, instead of the internal memory. Of course, I had to type up instructions for the other family members who will be adding photos to the frame prior to sending it to the finaly giftee. In any rate, it is still a great frame, much better than any other I have previously owned/used.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Farme, October 17, 2008
This review is from: HP DF800 8-Inch High Resolution Digital Picture Frame with Remote (Electronics)
This frame has a beautiful picture and is well made and easy to use. My only nitpicks are that it always starts from the same picture when turned on and the remote pause button will not let you go from run to pause and back again - it makes you walk thru one extra step (viewing 12 frames at one time).

I guess there is a third complaint - you cannot simply connect it to your PC and let the PC run throught the frame. Pictures must be either copied to the frame's internal memory - or insert a USB flash drive or card or some other external media source.

All considered, it is very nice and I would buy it again. I may buy the 10 inch also.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HP DF800 8-Inch High Resolution Digital Picture Frame with Remote (Electronics)
I bought this HP Digital frame because it was the top rated by Consumer Reports and it was a gift for my adult daughter's birthday, while we were on a beach vacation. She absolutely loved it--took it out of the box, popped her camera memory card in and it started playing her slide show of vacation pictures immediately. She was impressed with the transitions between the pictures. It would fade and flip in and out, rather than just go from one picture to the next. Then she started playing with the remote control and other capabilities and had even more fun. I'll be buying one for my other adult children.
