4.0 out of 5 stars No problems so far..
I've burned only one DVD+R so far with this burner. It was a breeze. DVD worked great on two sony dvd players (4-5 yrs old). Had no problem using it with Video editing software ArcSoft ShowBiz. I purchased a refurb model for a bargain - the power cord connection is slightly misaligned and therefore 4 stars. Excellent value for the price I paid. Have not used dvd-r,...

1.0 out of 5 stars Unreliable
I bought an HP DVD 640E, used it for 13 months worked fine burned dvd's and CD's. I thought it was great value. I noticed the case was a bit warm from the start and wondered if it should have a fan. Then it died, no resurrection, you can't put another DVD burner in the unit unless you can find the exact HP replacement because of the unique design of the plug and socket...

UPDATE: Burned and tested DVD-R without any probs. Also, burned data DVD using ULead Burn. Now successfully.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unreliable, April 15, 2006
This review is from: HP DVD 630E DVD Writer (Personal Computers)
I bought an HP DVD 640E, used it for 13 months worked fine burned dvd's and CD's. I thought it was great value. I noticed the case was a bit warm from the start and wondered if it should have a fan. Then it died, no resurrection, you can't put another DVD burner in the unit unless you can find the exact HP replacement because of the unique design of the plug and socket which mates the burner to the USB interface.

I think I'd have been better off in the long run to have bought a USB case and internal burner. This was a lot of money down for such little use.

It's the second HP DVD burner I've had the other one failed after 9 months and I got it replaced with some effort. I'd not buy another HP DVD drive of any kind.

I gave it one star for reliability though if it had not failed I would have given it five. It's sad that you can't buy a reliable product, I feel very let down by such a well known name. Come on HP offer me a reasonable priced repair or a good dial on a trade in and I'll post a much more favourable report.

1.0 out of 5 stars Just stopped working, November 20, 2006
This review is from: HP DVD 630E DVD Writer (Personal Computers)
This burner just stopped working one day. I was very disappointed after being so excited about backing up my dvd movies. What can I say? Can I trust HP burners again? Looks like I will have to fork over another x amount of $$ to replace? Ordering online? Well, only if I can get a warrenty.
