Great for home use, but consider ink costs as well,
By A Customer
This review is from: HP Deskjet 3745 Color Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
This is an excellent printer for those who don't print a lot. It will print documents at a very reasonable speed, and wonderful photos on 4x6 tabbed paper. The hardware has proven to be pretty reliable, as this new printer is based on HP's older Deskjet 3500 series. The software has been improved greatly over last year's products. There is now a much lower chance of problems with installation. The extra software that's included isn't too large, so this printer is good for PC's close to the minimum requirements. If you print more than 100 pages a month, or if you have a business, I'd recommend the Deskjet 6540 instead, as the ink costs half as much. Due to the higher ink cost, the 3745 is a good choice only if you don't print a lot. Otherwise, it is an excellent printer for home use.

Surprisingly good to be so cheap.,

I'll be honest. I'm not a fan of HP. I worked in the IT field for a number of years, and they always caused me headaches. I bought this printer solely because it was cheap.
I guess I owe HP an apology now, because this little printer has been nearly perfect for me. The print speed and quality are very good for the price, and it's very compact. Unlike other printers that load the paper from a vertical tray in the back, this little DeskJet loads from the front, so the paper stays flat, and won't curl up or jam. Admittedly, I don't print in large volume, so those who do will likely be better off with a laser printer, or a more ruggedly-built printer. I mainly need something to print ordinary text documents, emails, etc. from time to time. For that, this printer has been very good indeed.

Great printer but not perfect,
This review is from: HP Deskjet 3745 Color Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
This is a good quality printer but there's still a few problems. First, ink only lasts about 100 to 120 pages so it's not good for constant printing, and second the description says "quiet and smooth", this printer does run fairly smooth but isn' that quiet. This printer also does not come with a USB cable needed to operate this printer so you'll have to buy a USB A/B cable.
But overall I would recomend this product for home/small office use

Prints well but noisy,

A nice inexpensive printer that prints documents well. Have not tried photos as I do not have that need. The only drawback is that the paper feed system/motor is very noisy compared to other HP printers that I have had.

Poor paper feed,
This review is from: HP Deskjet 3745 Color Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
i am disappointed in this printer for the way it handles feeding the paper. It jams, or puts through many blank pages, or refuses to work at all if the paper tray has too much (seemingly a normal amount) of paper in it.
My husband worked as a printer technician for Hewlett Packard, but even he can't get it to improve its performance. Every time I try to use it, I have to call him to get it to work at all, and even then the pages are not printed well (half a page on one sheet of paper, the other part on a different sheet, for example.) When I was asked by email to rate this printer, I hadn't yet used it so was not able to express these faults. I haven't saved the packing materials with which to return it. I can't afford to buy a better one.

Great Printer Product,

I have to tell you that this little printer is totally impressive for such a low price. Only minor complaint is no USB cable, but I happen to have a spare. Minor bugs to sort out at first and one call to HP tech help and they answered the phone on the first ring everything has been really perfect. Far better than the Epson C80, more reliable fairly fast printing and the ink won't break you as I get about 300 full printed pages of word documents from a black cartridge for under $20.00 bucks in perfect form. I highly suggest this little simple HP printer big time for everyday printing, and the few color PICS I've made there not bad either. No question this was worth every cent paid hands down! I've had at least six other printers that all costs more but didn't show me the kind of product results this little machine dose, don't be fooled thinking its junk because the HP people have figured it out.

Good printer, not so friendly installation,

Printing quality is good. It's fast when printing on black. Occupies less space than the average home printer. USB cable was not included.
Installing was a really pain. Installing CD could not perform the task. Had to download the drivers from the HP website. Once this was done, everything ran smooth.

Even though it didn't include the usb cable it is a very good printer. It's b&w prints are of high quality. It prints 14ppm in b&w,which is quite fast.It just spits it out.It also is very quiet and small.Keep in mind the usb cable it needs is the Belkin Pro Series USB 2.0 Device Cable (USB A/USB B] NOT the Belkin F3U133-06 USB Device Cable

Mechanically sound, but installation software a problem,
This review is from: HP Deskjet 3745 Color Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
First, for a low-end printer, the HP 3745 is pretty good, once you get it working. It is fairly quiet, and prints with little streaking. It is a bit slow, but high speed is not something I was expecting from a low priced printer.
I did have considerable problems with the installation software. I am far from computer illiterate, but had a lot of trouble getting the printer to work with my system. I finally discovered that the driver the Install Wizard was picking was the wrong one. Once I manually picked the driver, everything ran smoothly. If you buy this printer, my advice is to be ready to go to hp.com and look at the support page for this printer. Alternatively, use the Help line given in the manual if you have problems with the software installation.

Good, inexpensive printer,

I bought this printer in replacement of another HP Deskjet printer (I wore it out after 4 years). It is super quiet and fast! It was easy to install as well. Like most printers, it did not come with a USB cable - but it is easy to find a cable for it (2.0 or 1.1 USB Cable will work). I bought my printer at Wal-mart and it came with two cartiages (color & black). It actually cost less without the shipping/handling at Wal-mart.
The print quality appears to be very good. I recommend this printer for those looking for an inexpensive printer. |
