Great For Lighter Printer Use,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HP Deskjet 3940 Color Inkjet Printer (C9050A#B1H) (Office Product)
First, the bad news:
If "printing", for you, means printing out 200 pages in a day, then this printer isn't going to be for you. The cartridge (specifically, the black) probably wouldn't hold out too long, and the printer would end up costing you money. The cartridges aren't cheap. Now, the good news: For those of us with light printing needs: - the ocassional picture - maps from a driving directions site - receipt from an online purchase - paper versions of your taxes If those are your needs, this printer will serve you well. It's very inexpensive, very quick, and has adequate color. And while the cartridges aren't big, they are more than adequate for the kinds of tasks listed above. I've had mine for over a month and the black cartridge isn't even 1/4 empty. If you're a light user, and you don't mind spending $20 every (I'm guessing) 6 months or so, this is probably a great printer for you. On the other hand, if you're an author who likes to print out his or her 500-page manuscript several times a month, you might want to look elsewhere for a printer that takes a larger cartridge.

Worked for a while, but less than a month paper jam ALL THE TIME,
This review is from: HP Deskjet 3940 Color Inkjet Printer (C9050A#B1H) (Office Product)
Like the other poster said, 1 star is TOO GENEROUS.
I dont even know what it wants, I bought cheap paper at first coz I print useless stuff like lyrics and memos. SO i bought expensive paper and it still says paper jam. I want to cry right now. I just wasted 40 bucks on something I really wanna beat up with a hammer or run over w/ a truck. I am not sure if I can still return it and I am afraid of selling it. Please dont buy it. It was a shame that I didnt check reviews prior to purchase, I really trusted HP.

Terrible Printer,
This review is from: HP Deskjet 3940 Color Inkjet Printer (C9050A#B1H) (Office Product)
This printer is not worth the cheap price. The ink doesnt last at all. I bought a brand new black ink cartridge to print a thesis paper and got 30 pages printed and the ink ran out. Also it kept crashing after printing 3 pages, just stopped and acted like the print job was done. So, I had to print it one page at a time. What a waste of money.

Buy Something Else,

I researched this printer before buying it and the reviews said it was good for low volume printing and the output quality was good. It was purchased for my son to use at college for printing reports and papers.
Low volume is an understatement, the ink cartridges only hold 5 ml of ink and cost in the neighborhood of $15. The cartridges for my older HP932 printer hold about 19 ml and go for about $30. Upon arrival, the sealed box contained no power cord. I had to call HP to have them send me one. To their credit, I will say that their support staff was friendly and helpful. It also tends to jam all the time. My son stopped trying to use it altogether. I wouldn't recommend it.

Unsatisfied Customer,
This review is from: HP Deskjet 3940 Color Inkjet Printer (C9050A#B1H) (Office Product)
I regret buying this printer. I can only feed one page at a time to avoid paper jams, whether using recycled or new paper. I really don't print that much and this is the most I've ever spent on ink. The print quality isn't even that great. It was a waste of money.

Just bought this printer from walmart. Will be returning it due to horrible paper jams constantly. I print dvd labels - a lot of them. I've been getting about one out of 5 printing correctly on a good batch. I use standard memorex dvd label paper. Absolutely. Unacceptable.

DON'T BUY THIS PRINTER !!
The ink cartridges hold only 5 ml of ink and cost around $15. That means that it's gonna cost you $15 for only 135 pages !! If you print out a book with 260 pages its gonna cost you $30 !! You'll go broke using this printer. The low price is just a hook, do not be fooled as I was. HP is a bad company with no respect for its costumers.

VERY HAPPY WITH THIS PRINTER SO FAR...,

I recently bought this printer for basic printing needs. I am very pleased with it so far. I don't find it to be too noisy, it prints good quality. I dont recommend it for pictures/photos but for your basic printing needs its a good buy. I don't find the ink to be too expensive. It is by far much cheaper than the lexmark ink I used to have to by for my lexmark printer(junk). But if you want an inexpensive printer for your basic printing needs I would recommend this one, and for less than $50, well you really can't go wrong. Don't let the bad reviews steer you away from this printer. Its a good basic printer.

Decent, inexpensive printer,

I purchased this printer to replace an inexpensive Epson inkjet. Because of its bad reviews, I had low expectations. I have to admit that I was happily surprised. Print quality is good, and the speed is decent. Initially it was VERY loud and VERY slow to "think", but whatever that was seems to have gone away after the first couple of print jobs.
It is true that the ink cartridges are smaller. I think that's a plus. I live in a hot climate, and with the Epson I kept having to replace the ink because it dried out after sitting for a week or two without printing. The ink was double the price of these HP cartridges - and there were 4 of them! (I actually purchased this printer out of frustration because it was cheaper to replace the whole thing than to replace the Epson ink!) This little printer is great for what it is - a basic, cheap, easy-to-use inkjet for people with low-volume print needs.

Deskjet 3940 - almost great - solution to absent output tray below,
By
This review is from: HP Deskjet 3940 Color Inkjet Printer (C9050A#B1H) (Office Product)
This is a nice little printer for at home printing. I would not recommend it for the amount of abuse it would see in a business setting. And it also prints halfway decent photos, if you only want one or two. That said, there is one drawback of this printer that made me rate it only 4 stars. There is no output tray for printed pages to land on! I never realized the importance of this part until my printed pages started feeding back into the printer. I did some searching for an aftermarket part to take care of this issue, and never found any. I also searched hp.com in the hopes of finding an output tray for a similar printer that I could buy and attach to my 3940. HP doen't make that easy, even when you have part numbers, which I did. I did find a handy item in my home office that appears to take care of the problem. So do read this if you get a different home printer that has the same problem.
Take the top of a box that some special printer papers come in, such as blank greeting cards or blank business cards. These boxes are letter paper size, and usually about 3/4 of an inch deep. With one small snip of the scissors and a piece of tape, the box lid will fit exactly where an output tray should have been. Your finished pages will land on this, and the box lid will not interfere with fresh paper being fed into the printer. Not a bad find, at $0.00 cost and thirty seconds of work! |
