4.0 out of 5 stars Decent printer for little things
Let's be honest here people. If you expect professional work out of a $30 printer you need to re-think what you are doing. This printer is great for at home jobs. It's a personal printer, not an office printer. For people that need to print out papers every now and then its great. Yes the print cartridges are small, but at target you can get a black ink cartridge for $15...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great starter printer!
"Starter" is the key word here. The cost is quite affordable; set-up is easy. For a printer of this size, don't expect to put in half reams of paper (logical). The ink cartridge cost is also affordable...BUT HERE IS THE REASON WHY: the cartridges hold next to nothing! If you're printing off a paper with more than 50 pages, get ready to change your cartridge! You will pay...

The ink cartridge cost is also affordable...BUT HERE IS THE REASON WHY: the cartridges hold next to nothing! If you're printing off a paper with more than 50 pages, get ready to change your cartridge! You will pay for this printer in ink cartridges in under 30 days. And like other reviews...it is SLOW. If color is not an issue, but you want speed and a better balance of ink used, upgrade to the HP 1020 (NOT the 1012-no, no, no, no, no!!).

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it, December 4, 2005
This review is from: HP Deskjet 3930 Color Inkjet Printer (C9067A#B1H) Gray (Office Product)
You get exactly what you pay for with this printer. First of all, the black cartridges won't even allow you to print plain black text on half a pack of paper. Second of all, mine is basically useless after about a year of light use. When I try to print pages, it skips lines, and prints random colors instead of blue at times. My relatively new black cartridge is about half full, and I've used the cleaning tools that come with the software, with no luck.

My advice: Pay a little extra for a better printer. It'll be well worth it in the end.

1.0 out of 5 stars HP is trying to steal from you !!, December 4, 2005
This review is from: HP Deskjet 3930 Color Inkjet Printer (C9067A#B1H) Gray (Office Product)
DON'T BUY THIS PRINTER !!

The ink cartridges hold only 5 ml of ink and cost around $15. That means that it's gonna cost you $15 for only 135 pages !! If you print out a book with 260 pages its gonna cost you $30 !! You'll go broke using this printer.

The low price is just a hook, do not be fooled as I was. HP is a bad company with no respect for its costumers.

1.0 out of 5 stars HP stands for Half-ass Printer, October 22, 2005
This review is from: HP Deskjet 3930 Color Inkjet Printer (C9067A#B1H) Gray (Office Product)
A cheaply made (Pez dispenser grade plastic) printer that ships without a USB cord and the BLACK printer cartridge (you only get the tri-color and that won't print a true black).

Just when you think that HP cannot sadden you anymore about your purchase you go to install the driver. HP has decided that you need nearly one gigabytes worth of crappy software, it installs for ages, gives you no cancel option and gives you no CUSTOM install to begin with. Watch out.

No HP. Never Again.

Keeping the Economy Alive (La Habra, ca United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HP Deskjet 3930 Color Inkjet Printer (C9067A#B1H) Gray (Office Product)
I bought mine to print some documents when my laser printer needed service last year. The ink cartridges are the same price of the printer, they dont last very long, frequent paper jams, and occasionally makes a noise that sounds like grinding plastic teeth. Like I said it saved me one day from purchasing a $$$$ printer, I have used it a few times in non emergencies. I was suprised it printed photos better then it prints black and white documents. For the price it deserves more stars then I rated it. I just dont want to mislead anyone into buying this as a light duty printer, it works but your money will be better invested on a laser jet. Of course it hurts to shell out about $200, and the toners are $65, but my laser printer has never needed the drum changed and I have used 4 toners in the last year, probably printing nearly 5000 pages. If you spend $30 on the HP and $30 per ink I would estimate even just printing things for fun would use 1 color and 1 black toner a MONTH! So in 3 months ink would have cost you about $150, and if you really dont use the printer that often the inl cartridges will dry out.

PS The only way to print black and white with the printer I am reviewing is to remove the color cartridge.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Bic Lighter of printers, October 12, 2005
This review is from: HP Deskjet 3930 Color Inkjet Printer (C9067A#B1H) Gray (Office Product)
A good disposable model; note that it is only shipped with color cartridge; b&w is optional, and necessary for economical use. Cartridges cheaper than some, if you decide to refill.

It's a personal printer, not an office printer. For people that need to print out papers every now and then its great. Yes the print cartridges are small, but at target you can get a black ink cartridge for $15. That beats $25 for a black ink cartridge. So yes it holds less ink, but the cartridges are cheaper.

I by no mean am saying this printer is fantastic and you should never worry about buying another printer again. But it was only $30 and it does its job. Once it dies I'll go buy another $30 printer.

I rated this machine 4 stars for its price range. If this was to be compared to a $80 printer it wouldn't hold its own, but that is why there are different prices!

Nice and compact little machine. I could easily see myself taking it with me on a small trip if needed. Closes up real small and is not bulky. Very lightweight.

WARNING: The only warning is some do not come with a USB cable. At least mine didn't and that is what the instructions said. But my old HP died so I just used its USB cable. Also no black ink cartridge, but you can get black out of the color cartridge.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great occasional use printer, January 18, 2006

I have to agree with the other reviewers if you plan to do extensive printing with this printer. I use an HP 2550L networked through the Airport Base Station to serve as my high volume (but still rather slow) printer for my all Mac network.

The 3930 is used for the occasional task such as photo and detailed graphics printing. It's ease of set up and use, small size and low power draw make it easy to use with whichever Mac that needs it.

I'm impressed enough with it that I am ordering a second 3930 to travel in my 18 wheeler. I have a small AC inverter to supply power, a Mac PowerBook G4 1.5 GHZ and a Canon Canoscan Lide 25 USB powered flat bed scanner. Add my internet connection through the bluetooth in my Nokia cell phone and PowerBook and I have a complete office on the road. (I can connect to my office WAN, FAX in and out via the internet and I don't get lost due to the GPS tied to a map program in the laptop.) The 3930 is a perfect compliment for a compact office that transfers the big jobs to the home or office, or as an occasional use printer.

BTW: Walmart carries the cartridges at a good price, which makes them readily available when you run dry in the middle of the night.

1.0 out of 5 stars The worst printer ... EVER, October 21, 2005

This review is from: HP Deskjet 3930 Color Inkjet Printer (C9067A#B1H) Gray (Office Product)
I have installed this printer on both OS X and Windows XP and it is without a doubt the worst printer I have ever used. I have already spent like 20 sheets of CD labels trying to get it to align properly. When using thin paper, it will start printing like 4 cm after the top margin, but when using the kinda thick CD label paper, it starts printing almost immediately after the top margin - it is unpredictable. The paper sheet is so damn confusing, if you put in the paper a bit more than you should, it will swallow the paper and declare its status as "paper jam". I am so frustrated about this right now , two hours and I have not been able to produce the CD labels I want. If you want more negative aspects of this: super noisy, takes forever to start to print, unpredictable margins when printing (this making precise printing impossible), no black cartridge included. I've had the same experience on both OS X and Windows XP, I have not been able to print a single label. Stay away from this as much as you can.
