5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome printer
This printer is awesome. The printing quality is great, it is small and portable and above all wireless which is nice when you don't want to have to worry about cables. The printer I had before was plugged into my router so it was kind of wireless but this one is entirely wireless so you can put it wherever you want. 3.0 out of 5 stars decent printer, but seller send you a REFURBISHED, not new, item
No where on this page does it say that the item is refurbished. I thought I was buying a brand new printer, but I was sent a refurbished one with the seller not even bothering to ship it out in a box. They just slap on the shipping label onto the retail packaging and hope for the best I guess. Shipping was quick, and the refurbished printer (along with the recertified...

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome printer, January 16, 2011
This review is from: HP Deskjet 3000 Printer (CH393A#B1H) (Office Product)
This printer is awesome. The printing quality is great, it is small and portable and above all wireless which is nice when you don't want to have to worry about cables. The printer I had before was plugged into my router so it was kind of wireless but this one is entirely wireless so you can put it wherever you want. Set up was super fast and very easy and worked like a charm on the first try (I don't know why the previous reviewer had problem with theirs because mine worked perfectly). Overall awesome printer that I would recommend in a heart beat. Also, the ink cartridges last pretty long so it's very economical!

This review is from: HP Deskjet 3000 Printer (CH393A#B1H) (Office Product)
I used this printer to replace a broken Canon. Set up was very easy, and now I can use this printer for all of my 3 computers. Wireless was very easy to set up.

This is the first printer I have had that actually works as expected. It's dependable, and too easy! Installation was no problem, it was printing within minutes. The prints and scans are great, even the photo's on paper. Great great product at a fantastic price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't ask for more, for less!, May 14, 2011

This printer is one of the best investments that I've made in a long time. The wireless setup is painfully simple (assuming you have a compatible router...) and I was able to fully set it up in under 10 minutes. Printing from my Dell laptop, my fiance's Mac Book Pro, and our iPhones has been incredibly simple and I love the fact that we can place this unit somewhere out of the way and not clutter our desks with it. To that end, the small footprint of the unit makes it easy to place just about anywhere in your house/apartment/dorm room/etc. Scanning and copying functionality are both quick and clear- this thing would be a bargain at $100.00

To balance the review slightly- this is not the fastest printer on the market, obviously, but for the price and functionality you cannot ask for a more reliable, easier to use printer.

3.0 out of 5 stars decent printer, but seller send you a REFURBISHED, not new, item, October 12, 2011

No where on this page does it say that the item is refurbished. I thought I was buying a brand new printer, but I was sent a refurbished one with the seller not even bothering to ship it out in a box. They just slap on the shipping label onto the retail packaging and hope for the best I guess. Shipping was quick, and the refurbished printer (along with the recertified ink), works fine, albeit there's a broken piece of plastic on the back. However, I can still justify this purchase due to their cheap price (bought it under $60 with shipping) and my urgent need for a printer for school. I think its deceitful of the seller not to mention that they send out refurbished goods, but for the price, as long it prints my schoolwork, I'm good.

On to the review for the printer: Printer does a decent job for the price. Very light weight and simple design, easy to use. Has wireless connection, which I needed to set up with the included disk, but no trouble connecting the printer to my laptop. Includes USB cable in case you don't have wireless. Printer speed is a little slower than what I'm used to, but not slow enough that it is inconvenient. I think the paper tray hold up to 25 sheets or something, but since I'm only printing stuff for school this factor is not important. Printing quality is fantastic for such a cheap printer. Not sure how much ink is used per page but I read in other reviews that the ink cartridges don't last very long. I'll update with my experiences once I use the printer a bit more. Definitely a bargain if all you need to do is some light printing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Difficult Installation--otherwise fine., July 25, 2011

This is my 4th HP printer and the first one that was difficult to install. Using the installation disk, the printer would not print in "draft" mode (and in "normal" mode it is a real ink hog). I tried downloading new drivers from the HP website. No improvement. The good news is that HP phone support was outstanding. My call was answered quickly and the support person (in India I think) rapidly fixed the problem. The bad news is that fixing the problem involved installing the driver for a different printer: the HP Deskjet 980C.

Other than that, the printer is fine.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unconscionable Practices . . . All 'Round!, November 4, 2011

I cannot fully express the utter contempt and loathing I have for Hewlett-Packard's printer division and the software that runs their devices. Having just run out of the original ink that shipped with the Deskjet 3000 (purchased here), I replaced the empty Black cartridge with a "remanufactured" unit (purchased elsewhere). Immediately upon its insertion in the printer, I was presented with a message on its small display screen that this cartridge was COUNTERFEIT or USED . . . and would nullify the warranty for the printer! The software installed on my iMac then revealed, too, that I had, indeed, inserted a COUNTERFEIT or USED cartridge in the Deskjet--AND--as punishment for not using HP's ORIGINAL PRODUCT, the printer would no longer reveal how much ink was left in the "fake" unit! WHAT?!?!?!?!? For the transgression of using less-expensive ink in a printer I paid good money for, HP intentionally and unconscionably DISABLED, in part, the functionality of this printer! IMHO this practice is unethical and, perhaps, even criminal! **

HP to consumers: If you don't use OUR overpriced ink in OUR printers, you'll be s-o-r-r-y! Your printer will no longer work as advertised! You'll have to limp along and guess how much ink is left in each of your "counterfeit" cartridges! Sucks to be you!

Well, here's the deal, HP: I was trying one of your devices again after decades of avoiding them (for this and similar reasons) to see how it stacked up against comparable units from Canon, Epson, and Kodak. Needless to say, I will NEVER AGAIN purchase or evaluate an HP device, and I will make sure no one in my company, family, and circle of friends does either. No wonder your company is going down the tubes (down almost 50% from its 52-week high)! Clearly, you disrespect (hate?) your own customers, the surest way to lose our loyalty and business support. Shame on you, HP. Shame.

------------

** Amazon itself sells a goodly amount of "counterfeit" HP ink cartridges (see Sophia Global Remanufactured Units), so beware of using them on an HP Deskjet 3000 as well!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good For Linux, December 21, 2011

The wifi setup for this printer depends either on Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) at your router or Windows/Mac based software to set up the printer through the usb cable. There is no way to enter network parameters via the control panel. This could be an issue if you've only got Linux based systems handy.

However, I learned that you can access the printer's integral web server after connecting your system to the printer's ad-hoc wifi network. The ssid and ip address are visible in the printer status report, but I had to wait several minutes before they became active.

The CUPS and HPLIP drivers work well from that point. The color is a bit dark but not bad at all. Print is reasonably sharp. Despite the rocky setup, I'm happy with it.

prints well on plain paper. wireless feature easy to set up. paper feed does NOT accept heavy 5x7 envelopes. only good for basic printing.
