2nd day with HP 8440p,
This review is from: HP EliteBook WH257UT 14-Inch Laptop (Personal Computers)
"I was diappointed with the elitebook 8440p laptop for several reasons. This was my first HP and will be my last. It just arrived yesterday and this is my 2nd day trying to load it up and get it ready.
1. the cd bay where you open and close to insert cd and dvd is flimsy and cheap. It is difficult to find the button on the side of the drive to open it. You have to spend minutes fishing around to find the button, what a pain. 2. I was not given a choice of operating system to be preinstalled. Why does HP assume everyone will want XP, which is the default? It would be better and in the best interest of the customer if HP gave you the option to have your laptop preinstalled with Windows 7 or XP. I had to spend time installing Windows 7. Thank goodness at least the Windows 7 install DVD was shipped! 3. The monitor is the worst. It is wide which is good, but the height of the monitor is too short. I need magnifying glass to see everything on the screen. I would recommend you get the 15 inch monitor. Also, the resolution is poor. For the price I paid for this laptop, I was expecting an LCD like experience. Instead, I got blurry text and images. 4. I had to spend 2 hours on the phone with HP to resolve a wireless LAN issue. There was a problem with my wireless card and its ability to auto detectand connect to wireless networks in my office. For an expensive piece of equipment like this HP needs to fix their network connectivity issue so that it is "plug and play." You should simply be able to turn on your laptop and the system should automatially detect all wireless networks. The HP tech had to download and upgrade my wireless LAN drivers. And, he did lots of other things to configure my laptop, which is only 2 days old. This took a lot of time. On the positive side, HP's techs and HP response to your call are really good. I did not have to wait on the phone for a long time."
