5.0 out of 5 stars K60 Does it all
The K60 is the perfect home & business tool. It has color faxing(stand alone or through PC), color scanning, color copying and even e-mail. Colors are vibrant and rich. Very Quick black printing, copying and fast color copies. Size wise, the machine is a tad bulky but for all it does who could complain. 3.0 out of 5 stars Great machine with a serious feature omission - Beware, February 12, 2001
This review is from: Hewlett Packard K60 OfficeJet (Office Product)
The K60 is a great machine in many ways but, and this is a big BUT... HP purposely left out a very important feature that the machine is entirely capable of. Black and White copying! That's right... if you put in ANYTHING with color on it and press copy, you will get a much more expensive and slower color copy. This works out great for HP because it uses lot's more of their expensive color ink, but not for the user. Try copying a sheet of yellow note paper with a few handwritten notes and prepare for a rather slow copy that uses a lot of the yellow ink in your color cartridge!

This is completely inexcusable considering the less expensive T45 does both color and B&W copies. It has a B&W copy button and a color copy button. You wouldn't think that moving up to one of HP's more expensive multifunction models would mean the loss of an important feature would you?

If you're going to be doing a lot of copying, think twice about this machine. Of course, the K80 has the same B&W Copy button that the T45 does, but do you really want to spend another $100 for a feature that any reasonable person would assume should already be in the K60? In case you're wondering, there is no menu option to enable B&W copying in the K60, it just isn't there. I have verified this with HP's tech support who find this missing feature equally baffling.

For this reason, I can't give it more than a three. I'd give it a 2.5 if I could.

A nice feature is that the PC Modem, and answering macine and phone all plug into the K60 and work through it. No need for multiple lines or splitters. HP Excellent job.

1.0 out of 5 stars Think again before you buy -no black and white copies, April 17, 2001

This review is from: Hewlett Packard K60 OfficeJet (Office Product)
You cannot make a copy in black and white. It doesn't seem like a issue until you add up all costs for a color cartridge. You are probably thinking that you don't copy that many document but you will be surprised how much you use the copy function once you have the convenience of a printer/copier in your home. Furthermore, the time it takes to make a copy (color only, of course) is ridiculous. Tip: place document on glass, press copy and get a good night's sleep.

You can print documents from your computer as black and white, but you can't make a copy of anything in black and white (unless it is black and white). Try making a copy of your notes from yellow legal paper or white paper that has the blue lines or a document with any color. If you look at most original documents (credit card statements, letters w/letterhead/logos, financial documents, etc.), you will notice they have color - especially the entire background is usually color. Good Luck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of all worlds, June 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Hewlett Packard K60 OfficeJet (Office Product)
After purchasing the K60 and hooking it up, I checked the reviews here to see what was said about the product in things I should look for. I know this is backwards, but I got a great deal on it, and figured I could return it anyway.

Despite some of the poor reviews, I am 100% satisifed with the K60. Sure pure black and white copies would be nice, but then shouldn't a copy be a copy, color and all? If I really need a black and white only, I can scan it, and print it, though I can't ever see myself doing it in reality.

As for the scanner, the quality is excellent, rivaling that from my Epson Perfection, and as for print quality, my 970CSE is not gonna have to work so hard. They both share the same print cartridges which is a great bonus for me.

The fax works great, and I love the way it integrates with my existing software to make life easy, which is exactly why I retired my old Sharp fax and went with a multi-function device.

My biggest complaint, minor as they are, is the size of this unit, and the documentation. It dwarfs the old Sharp fax machine I had making it look a little out of place on my desk.

As for the documentation, HP needs to re-evaluate it's target market for this product. At [price] this unit warrants a real users manual that describes the many features of the K60 in detail. I'd expect the included manual to be included in a product that costs half the price such as one intended for the home market, not an office product. A more detailed manual would save HP money in the long run with a reduction in questions to their phone support, as I've already placed two calls.

If you are looking for a multi-function device with great scan and print quality, then the K60 hits the mark. If black and white copies from color documents are a major need, you may want to look elsewhere, but I can't imagine not buying it for that reason alone.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the Most Useful Tools in my Home Office, September 5, 2001

My OfficeJet K60 is a workhorse and I love it. I use it for my home office. It is fast and reliable.

Pros: Easy to get ink refills, relatively small desktop "footprint," excellent device-to-computer interface

Cons: Misc. driver issues with Win2k, difficulty running under Win2k with parallel cable (I had to switch to USB), particularly excellent fax software.

One additional thing to note: make sure you think through your copying/scanning requirements before purchasing this or any other unit. This scanner scans like a fax - its great, but you can't scan a page out of a book or magazine without removing it. Machines that have the flat top for scanning from books are usually larger and take up more space on your desk, so there is a tradeoff.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nothing but trouble so far, March 1, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Hewlett Packard K60 OfficeJet (Office Product)
I've had this machine for 2 weeks. I use it with a fairly new (1 year) Compaq laptop in a docking station. My first problem was with installation. It uninstalled itself every time I restarted my computer. HP customer service had to help me make adjustments to msconfig before I could get it to stay installed. Now it is installed, and it consistently freezes my computer when I am trying to print pages from Netscape Communicator, Winfax Pro or Adobe Acrobat. I have had to restart my computer 9 times in the last 48 hours because of failed printing. It holds the jobs in cue, and then when I cancel the jobs after waiting half an hour or so, it freezes my computer. It just now ate two sheets of Avery labels. It cannot handle more than one sheet of labels at a time. It grabs 3 or four. I had a cheap HP 4L that was great for labels. Printing is pretty slow. I haven't even really tried the scan features yet, but I don't think I will. I'll be too busy packing it up for its return trip to the retailer.

I will say that all of the customer service people I've spoken to were very nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly What I was Looking For, January 21, 2001

This review is from: Hewlett Packard K60 OfficeJet (Office Product)
Excellent product. I had it out of the box and operational within minutes. The quality is excellent and every function works flawlessly. There is a quick set-up guide that is easy to follow without having to read all the instructions in the manual(yes, I am a man and no I don't read instructions!) I use this for a home business and it is exactly what I was looking for. I had used earlier models at work for years with no problems but this is a Cadillac compared to the earlier models. It fits either serial or USB ports although neither cord is included. Not a big deal if you have a spare, but if you order it,want to go up right away and don't have an extra, purchase a cord beforehand. Overall, a great unit!

3.0 out of 5 stars K60 or K80?, March 19, 2002
By
Miguel Correia (Lisbon, Portugal) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hewlett Packard K60 OfficeJet (Office Product)
I have seen previous reports on K60, and decided to buy a K80, with TWO COPY BUTTONS, black and colour copy.
The machine is not intuitive to use, but it does what you would expect, with two advantages against K60: modem speed, and black copy key.
It has a major problem wich most users will not detect!
It works well when driven by HP suplied software, but if we try to scan from MS Office XP "image scanning" and some other aplications, the machine scans only the first page, ejecting all the others, forcing us to feed the document page by page by hand.
Quite frustrating for a machine with a 20 page feeder.
It will became a great machine with a new modem and a driver patch, unfortunately not available for the moment.

This review is from: Hewlett Packard K60 OfficeJet (Office Product)
This product has ended my all pains. It saves my time and also my money. Forget about the small printers, try this one and you will love it. Fax from your pc, take a copy, e-mail it... Do whatever you would like to. Also, it's scanner is awsome, it takes less than 10 seconds to scan a complex color photo. Perfect... Pefect.. Perfect... I love my HP!
