I honestly cannot believe that HP would even manufacture this monstrosity.

The main body of the unit is rather large and on the heavy side, but it has a well-built feel to it.

I love this power supply, I can use it in the car on air planes or just on the coffee shop.

The good: this product does work, has a button to prevent charging battery if you want. comes with an adapter to expand compatibility with other HP laptops. Seperate, detachable power cables (air/auto vs 120v AC).
The bad: First, this adapter is not very travel friendly. This adapter is HUGE compared to many of the regular OEM power adapter. check the size before you buy. The wire that goes out of the adapter to the laptop is very stiff, which may be a hassle for most. The default setting when you plug any of the power plugs (air/ac/auto)in is set to "not charge" your laptop, meaning if you unplug the adapter from the ac/auto/air source and replug it in, it will not charge your laptop until you press the button, which can easily result in a empty laptop battery if you keep moving around with the charger and forget to press the button on top. lastly, this adapter's plug for the laptop is the kind with a small pin (think antenna cable for televisions)but it includes an adapter to allow the charger to be plugged into other hp models, this adapter does not fit snug when connected to the cable (pulls off easily).
Overall, i wouldn't recommend this unless you plan on leaving it plugged into the wall, and RARELY need it for travel.

This is a funny cord to sell as a travel cord. The charger is larger than one would expect and very heavy, but that's because it has built in surge protection (something no traveler should be without). The cord is still, but that means it won't break easily. And the fact that it doesn't charge by default is really annoying, but it doesn't make the thing unusable. My real problem with it is that it has two parts that can easily become lost and make the whole unit useless.

The first part is the adapter that makes it fit those laptops with smaller charging ports (I haven't lost this yet, but I'm sure I will eventually, and I checked and HP won't sell a replacement for this $2 adapter so once you loose it you'd better eBay the thing to someone who has a different model laptop).

The one I did loose is the car/plane cord. Without that, this is a very large and very expensive desk charger. In fact, right now I'm using it at work for just that purpose. HP will not sell a replacement cord, and I can't find a similar cord anywhere (they used their own plug to adapt it that looks like a MIDI connector). I ended up buying a new one.

If anyone out there has had the same problem and found a replacement cable, please comment on the review and let me know where! Thanks!

This HP works well as a replacement charger. It also has the feature to only provide power to the laptop and NOT charge, so you don't ruin your battery by having the laptop plugged in all of the time.

This charger is larger & heavier than your average HP charger. It also doesn't have the nice cable reel around that Dell chargers have. (no HP chargers have that feature).

This product gets 4 stars instead of 5 because of weight and size, plus lack of a place to reel the cord when not in use.

As others have said this is very large and heavy. The reason for this is it is also a power inverter to change 12 volts to 19.5 volts to power your laptop. Thus it is much larger than a regular AC charger. The reason you have to push a seperate button to have it charge is because on airplanes you can't use it as a charger. This is explained in the instructions that using it as a charger can it can damage the aircraft electronics. It will power my laptop for use during the flight but isn't for charging on planes. It does let you charge and use your laptop when plugged in to the car outlet though. I have had this charger for several years and have used it frequently. It does the job it is intended for and has so far been reliable. I agree it is heavy and large to travel with (that's why 4 stars) but for long flights it is a life saver.

There are three basic problems with this power adapter - (1) its the size of a real brick, (2) it weighs as much as a brick, and (3) it doesn't work on at least one listed laptop, the tx2500z.

Size and Weight: I was shocked when I opened the box. I couldn't possibly be that large I thought. But as I unwrapped the package, I realized I had wasted my money. I honestly cannot believe that HP would even manufacture this monstrosity. It is literally 3x the weight of the OEM adapter from HP, and 3x the weight. In fact, in my box of power adapters (and I have literally hundreds), this is the largest power adapter by far. Even larger than my 15 year old Toshiba brick - and that was huge! I just don't get why HP would sell this thing.

Compatibility: For laptops using HPs smaller tip (which is ostensibly included), don't bother getting this adapter because the adapter tip is slightly "loose", and it will not deliver power unless you hold the tip in place! I have a tx2500z but I suspect its a problem with the small tip adapter that was included with this item.

There are a very few pros to this adapter: (1) it has nice rubber trim on the bottom to keep it from sliding on the floor, (2) you can choose "power only" which will power your laptop but not charge your battery (wow, what a useful feature!?), and (3) if there is a hurricane, you can hold on to the adapter to prevent being blown away (it would also serve as a great boat anchor).

I gave two starts only because it does work as advertised (other than the defective adapter tip).

Don't buy this product.
