The HP1502 Monitor and a few of its close brothers... Have an intrinsic design fault on their power supplies, which causes them to fail. The result on screen is that the monitor will flash on and off every few seconds. This is more prevalent at higher resolutions, but eventually will happen at all resolutions.

This fault is caused by low quality low rated capacitors on the power supply board, which fail after a short time of use. It is possible to repair, if you are reasonably handy with a soldering iron. I've repaired four of these so far at a cost of about £5 GBP for the capacitors. BUT BE WARNED!! BUY ONE ONLY IF YOU'RE SURE YOU WANT THE JOB!! because they WILL! fail at some point.

Just search "HP1502" in google and you'll find several people listing which caps you need to replace.

Otherwise, image quality is good for desktop applications, bright, with good 400:1 contrast ratio. Response time is really too low at 23ms for high quality video. So don't expect to watch movies on it without a bit of motion blur. Otherwise a good cheap monitor only spoiled by the above problem. Buy it if it's really cheap and you can do the repair, otherwise look elsewhere.
