Cartridge is worthless,

This review is from: HP LaserJet 15A Black Print Cartridge in Retail Packaging (Office Product)
I put off replacing the cartridge in my HP Laserjet 1000 for many months. I was tempted to get a remanufactured/reconditioned one since I had used them at work before with no real problem. Then I recalled the problems I had a few years back using "compatible" cartridges for my Canon inkjet. Because of these off-brand cartridges, I ended up having to spend a chunk of money to replace the whole print head. (Back before print heads were integrated into ink cartridges, they were built better and would last a really, really long time - meaning consumers could refill their own ink cartridges as many times as they liked.) So, I decided to go with a brand new HP cartridge. After shopping around a bit, I ordered one - via Amazon - from Laser & Copy Supply. It arrived on time and the packaging was fine. I ripped off the thin strip of cardboard that seals every HP toner box, took the cartridge out of the sealed black plastic bag, then installed it. When I ran a test page, I had serious ghosting (image repeated further down the page) and major black splotches, especially on the top half of the page. I checked online and read that this problem may result from a bad Primary Charge Roller. Apparently this is not uncommon when buying remanufactured cartridges. However, I ordered what was supposedly a brand new HP cartridge! If I had checked out the bottom of the box the cartridge came in, I would've known to be suspicious. The cardboard has been seriously torn on both sides and then obviously re-glued. When I called the Laser & Copy Supply, I got a voice menu. I pressed "0" for operator, and the second I uttered the phrase "toner cartridge", I was transferred to someone's voicemail. This is not the access I expect to have to an Amazon seller when I call at 3:00 pm on a Tuesday afternoon. The problem is not with my printer. The old cartridge still works fine except the output is a little faint in places. The problem is this new cartridge. It is a complete FAIL. Now I wish I'd paid the extra $20 and gotten one from Staples, Office Max, or some vendor who has proved reliable in the past. If I get a response from the vendor, I will update this review. ---------------- UPDATE: After leaving two messages with the vendor, I got a callback. I explained the cartridge did not work properly, and pointed out its carton had been torn in several places and seemed to have been reglued. (Later, on a new HP cartridge purchased from my local office supply store, I noticed there was a black plastic tab on the end of the foil strip that gets yanked out of the cartridge before installation. This was missing on the cartridge I bought via Amazon; there was just the foil strip). "Jacob" was properly contrite on behalf of the Laser & Copy Supply, and offered me either a replacement or a full refund. I chose the latter and he said he was submitting it right then. The credit appeared on my account in short order. When I asked if he wanted me to return the cartridge, he said, "Not if it's like you say it is." So, though disappointed the cartridge didn't work for me, I appreciated not having to repackage (and pay postage) to send the defective cartridge back, and the fact that my refund came through without delay.
