1.0 out of 5 stars Cartridge is worthless, September 13, 2011

I put off replacing the cartridge in my HP Laserjet 1000 for many months. I was tempted to get a remanufactured/reconditioned one since I had used them at work before with no real problem.

Then I recalled the problems I had a few years back using "compatible" cartridges for my Canon inkjet. Because of these off-brand cartridges, I ended up having to spend a chunk of money to replace the whole print head. (Back before print heads were integrated into ink cartridges, they were built better and would last a really, really long time - meaning consumers could refill their own ink cartridges as many times as they liked.)

So, I decided to go with a brand new HP cartridge. After shopping around a bit, I ordered one - via Amazon - from Laser & Copy Supply. It arrived on time and the packaging was fine.

I ripped off the thin strip of cardboard that seals every HP toner box, took the cartridge out of the sealed black plastic bag, then installed it. When I ran a test page, I had serious ghosting (image repeated further down the page) and major black splotches, especially on the top half of the page.

I checked online and read that this problem may result from a bad Primary Charge Roller. Apparently this is not uncommon when buying remanufactured cartridges. However, I ordered what was supposedly a brand new HP cartridge!

If I had checked out the bottom of the box the cartridge came in, I would've known to be suspicious. The cardboard has been seriously torn on both sides and then obviously re-glued.

When I called the Laser & Copy Supply, I got a voice menu. I pressed "0" for operator, and the second I uttered the phrase "toner cartridge", I was transferred to someone's voicemail. This is not the access I expect to have to an Amazon seller when I call at 3:00 pm on a Tuesday afternoon.

The problem is not with my printer. The old cartridge still works fine except the output is a little faint in places. The problem is this new cartridge. It is a complete FAIL.

Now I wish I'd paid the extra $20 and gotten one from Staples, Office Max, or some vendor who has proved reliable in the past.

If I get a response from the vendor, I will update this review.

UPDATE:

After leaving two messages with the vendor, I got a callback. I explained the cartridge did not work properly, and pointed out its carton had been torn in several places and seemed to have been reglued. (Later, on a new HP cartridge purchased from my local office supply store, I noticed there was a black plastic tab on the end of the foil strip that gets yanked out of the cartridge before installation. This was missing on the cartridge I bought via Amazon; there was just the foil strip).

"Jacob" was properly contrite on behalf of the Laser & Copy Supply, and offered me either a replacement or a full refund. I chose the latter and he said he was submitting it right then. The credit appeared on my account in short order. When I asked if he wanted me to return the cartridge, he said, "Not if it's like you say it is."

So, though disappointed the cartridge didn't work for me, I appreciated not having to repackage (and pay postage) to send the defective cartridge back, and the fact that my refund came through without delay.

I bought this toner for my HP Laserjet 1200. I've had the printer for almost 9 years now and it still works great. I don't print much though, but when I do this printer fires up and prints correctly every time. I finally ran out of toner a while back and decided to go with this cartridge through Amazon. It arrived quickly and installed in less than a minute. What else is there to say about toner?

The exact same product I can buy at the office supply store but at almost half the price. What more can I say.

5.0 out of 5 stars Printer cartridge easy to use, May 14, 2009

This is the first time I have written a review on Amazon for anything. I liked how easy the cartridge was to change in the printer. It just pops out, the new one has a tag you press and pull out a strip (just like at the office) and it pops right in. Also like at the office, the box has labels inside it to send it through UPS to recycle it. The price point on Amazon was over $20 less than my local office supply store.

Very pleased. This Toner Cartridge is about 9" wide and came properly packaged, received in a timely fashion, works just fine and most of all I appreciate the reasonable price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Toner Cartidge from HP, January 7, 2008

When the original toner cartridge for an HP LaserJet 1000 became used up, I obtained a "just like new" reconditioned one through Staples. This cartridge never worked satisfactorily, leading me to suspect something was wrong with the printer itself. In an attempt to answer the question, I bought a new HP Cartridge and to my delight things are back to normal. My advice is to avoid low cost reconditioned cartridges advertised as working "like new." The new HP is totally satisfactory and well worth the additional cost.
