I bought my laserjet 5 about 3 years ago and it's my best printer ever. It may be old and heavy, but I have no regrets. I print a solar cookbook with it and it is incredibly dependable and the pages look great. I talked to my service guy yesterday about it (it's never needed service, he just provides the toner cartridge), and he said they're one of the best printers ever made. Never jams, gets tons of copies from a cartridge and it's easy and inexpensive to repair (so he says). If you can find one of these, snatch it up. They are truly worth every cent.

We owned a home business that required massive amounts of printing, and we had a LaserJet 5 at each computer. Over a decade later we our business is gone but we kept 2 of the 5 printers. One went to college with our son, the other stayed with me. Aside from the required maintenance of purchasing toner and the occasional conditioner, both of them were worry-free. I am downsizing to a studio apartment and am finally getting rid of my own in favor of an all-in-one set to save space.

If you are looking for a solid, durable workhorse of a laser printer that has a toner cartridge that lasts and lasts, this is it!

The only downside: Nowadays it will occasionally jam a sheet if I overload it with too much paper or leave it running too long above our wall heater.

The HP Laserjet 5 printer was provided for me to use when I worked as a secretary for the public schools. I quickly found that it was very reliable, produced beautiful copies, paper and ink cartridges were easy to load, and it seldom jammed. I liked it so much that I bought one for personal use after I retired in 2001. I've been using it ever since, and absolutely love it. When I typed a cookbook for a senior citizens' center, I used this printer, and it performed flawlessly. I'm currently in the process of finding something similar that prints color copies. I don't remember exactly what I paid for it, but it has been worth every penny. Me and my HP, BFF. :)

As of August 2008, I have been using the HP Laser Jet 5 at my office since 1996 and it still works great today as it did when it first powered up! Simply said this printer has outlived two PC's and is working fine with the third! You know now-a-days most PC's only have about a five-year life span, but limited life spans hasn't applied to this printer yet. I don't know if this printer is even still available because it only has the outdated parallel port (no USB), but I have personally used this printer for over twelve years and it is simply the most reliable and best printer I have ever used!

My product arrived in a timely manner, but it does not work. I understand the risk of purchasing a used product, but I was under the impression it was reconditioned and somewhat guaranteed to work. It did not. So I basically made a donation to the company rather than a purchase. I e-mailed the seller on 3 occasions and was never given the consideration of a response. So I guess this isn't a review of the product as much as it is venting my disappointment with the seller.
