Attention Getter-Impulse Buy for the Fashionista,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HP Mini 1140NR 10.2-Inch Netbook - Vivienne Tam Edition (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 60 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 3 Cell Battery) (Personal Computers)
I happened to have a little extra cash, so I bought this. I did not purchase this product for its functionality. I have other computers with much larger hard drives and sturdier casings. I bought this because it was a fashion statement for my Red Hat years, albeit an expensive one. It is a gorgeous shade of nail laquer red with antique gold lettering on the keyboard. The keys remind me of Chinese ceramic tiles. It is not as light as I thought it would be, but it is light enough to keep in my purse without feeling the extra weight. It has Win XP and starts up fast. The wireless LAN found a connection instantly. It has very little software so you won't waste much time getting rid of what you don't want. I understand that when "designer" is added to anything, it ups the price, but this could be a little cheaper. I wish it came with the matching mouse. It does come with a shiny red satin bag, which I don't care for because it's too gaudy for my taste. HP brought down the price of the matching tote bag and scarf, however. Get noticed!
03/09 Update I just ordered the matching mouse from Beach Audio through Amazon-expensive but it completes the set. HP doesn't carry it and doesn't plan to according to the response I got from them. I just received the matching tote and scarf from HP. I like the scarf but not the tote. The tote is canvas and quite sturdy-plenty of room in the separate slot for the computer, extra battery and the mouse. But the large floral design is not to my taste. It was half price when I ordered it so I will keep it. I may learn to like it. BTW, the photo above shows the additional black battery that can be ordered. The original battery is red, like the computer.

Great Little Netbook!,

This review is from: HP Mini 1140NR 10.2-Inch Netbook - Vivienne Tam Edition (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 60 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 3 Cell Battery) (Personal Computers)
I purchased this little gem on 2/5/09, albeit I ordered it from hpshopping and not Amazon. I had no idea Amazon carried it, so didn't look anywhere else for it. I LOVE IT. It works great, is very light and compact, and certainly is eye-catching. The smaller keyboard took a little adjusting to, but it's fine. As in the other review I read, I wish I could have gotten the matching "mouse". Don't know why they made it, then didn't offer it for purchase. Ladies, I'm over 60, and love this thing - you should get one too!

fashionable & functioning,

this is a great netbook. the keyboard is surprisingly large enough so that you feel like you are actually typing instead of texting. it is quiet, very portable and perfect for internet use. my only complaint so far is that the finish on the keys should have been a matte plastic as it picks up every single fingerprint, therefore it always looks dirty.

I ADORE my little 'Viv'!,
This review is from: HP Mini 1140NR 10.2-Inch Netbook - Vivienne Tam Edition (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 60 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 3 Cell Battery) (Personal Computers)
It doesn't get much better than this. MUCH nicer in person. This little baby is fashionable as well as fast-fast-fast! The color is amazing, not just painted on, but part of the casing. I bought a leather case, but it comes with a stunning satin one. Fits in a totebag. Is it pricey? Of course it is, but you are paying for art. If you object to that, don't buy it. If you love beauty in unexpected places, you will adore it too.

I just purchased this from amazon.com after much research of netbooks. In reading the many reviews & info specs as well as taking into consideration my computer skills(beginner), I am happy with my "new" addition. It is not the only household computer, but I can be assured that my husband will not be caught messing with this fashion tool!
I'm enjoying the keyboard, size of screen, quickness as well as the coordinating mouse that I am glad to have added. I wanted this for email, internet and possibly some photo fun. I hope this helps someone in their selection process as there are many to choose from, not many with the individuality of color & fashion that I understand is NOT a consideration for most. Just know the "men" in your household will not be playing with your personal netbook!

This mini is beautiful, compact and very versatile, however, it has a problem that heats up a lot. It gets very hot even with one of those laptop cooling items it still does not help.

I got this for my birthday, and I love it! Very portable, and super-cute; which is exactly what I was looking for. The only thing I would add is a CD drive. But I can live with out it - it's not my main computer.

I really wanted to love this. The keyboard is great, it's eye-catching, but the battery life is horrid. I upgraded to 2 gb easily. By the time I got done paying HP I could have purchased two of these in black. The matching mouse is ineffective. Not enough USB drives. Only plus is the internal wireless card. It gets a bit warm, but oh the battery. Anyway, it's on its way back to HP Monday. I bought a Samsung NC10 in blue -- $450 compared to $1100 with all the accessories. I'm lookingforward to my refund.!

Cute but with flaws and inept customer service,

My husband gave me a Vivienne Tam HP Mini in February 09. It is super cute and gets a lot of attention. The netbook is overpriced at $700 with low resolution screen, low memory, power plug sitting loosely in the socket, perpetually loosing connection and a battery life of 2 hours.
It came with Windows XP and promptly got infected with the worm. We had to rebuild it with Windows 7 beta and later upgraded to full Windows 7. By the summer the battery icon acquired a red cross and a pop-up, stating: 9% available (not charging) consider replacing the battery. What I believed would be a simple battery replacement under 12 months guarantee turned into a frustrating experience: HP had to run a battery check to prove that the battery was faulty. Their diagnostics would not run on my mini as I had Windows 7. HP suggested I reinstall XP, this was the only option to get a battery under guarantee. We went through several reiterations of this script with various impeccably polite Indian technicians and their abrasive and indifferent US supervisors. After hours on hold over 10 days I eventually got though to an executive manager only to hear the same broken record of reinstalling XP, so they could trouble shoot. I asked if HP considered supporting Window 7. The not so well informed executive manager told me that Windows 7 was still in beta, I had to correct him that Windows 7 was released for business and that Toshiba supported it even in beta, I did not get an impression he cared. I briefly considered talking to his manager and then decided to quit with HP and write this up. HP has many tiers, I don't have any more time to waste, I got the picture. I bought a $70 battery to replace the faulty one. It comes only in black, while the original is in red. My next laptop is not going to be HP.

I was so excited ....for 2 weeks! Then it would not charge. I have NOT had it in my possession in a working condition since! It has been sent to and from HP repair service twice! What a waste of effort that was. Now off it goes again for the third time...So basically in 4 months, I have been able to use it for 2 to 3 weeks! I have thought HP was offering poor service and not being thorough, maybe that is the case. But Amazon...are you selling defective or "seconds". Anyone deciding to purchase a laptop from Amazon should beware!!!
