Don't know what to think of this multifunction........,
By A Customer
This review is from: HP OfficeJet 5110 All-in-One Multifunction (Office Product)
I have recently purchased this HP Officejet 5110 all-in-one and was very happy with it. It has some strange quirks that I cannot seem to find the answer for, am waiting for HP support to get back to me. Sometimes during e-postage printing it will say it is "printing" in the dialog box and just sits there and doesn't print. I have Windows XP Professional and the software seemed to go in okay. The paper feed makes a very loud noise when the paper isn't shoved in all of the way or you forgot to put paper in. When just wanting to make a quick copy of something, it makes you go through a 6 item menu just to make a text copy! The print problem also happens when trying to print text off of a web page that usually printed with no problems before. Also on the HP website it states they are working on an updated driver for Windows XP for this printer. Gee I wonder??? And why did they issue the Officejet 6110 so quickly after this release? Maybe because this was a "trial model"????Who knows, I will just hold onto it and wait for the driver.

Known gear jam problem,
By Walt D. Isney (Alaska) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HP OfficeJet 5110 All-in-One Multifunction (Office Product)
There is a well known hardware failure problem with these printers called the "carriage jam" issue. The print cartridge carrier gets stuck to the right due to what HP calls a defective gear assembly. HP has been replacing these units outside the standard warranty, though not recalling them.
Our company has a few hundred of these and the number of units failing at 13 months is astounding. If you own one and are having this problem you may be able to get HP to replace it outside the warranty period.

Great quality and functionality at an affordable price,

This review is from: HP OfficeJet 5110 All-in-One Multifunction (Office Product)
The HP 5110 is a terrific all-in-one, far superior to the HP 710 that it replaced. Its printing quality is outstanding; it prints digital photos with superb clarity and no graininess. It has built-in options for each of its functions. One major drawback is that it cannot print addresses on envelopes other than #10 (standard business size). Its weird noises are not a problem but I don't understand why replacement ink cartridges are so costly.

Garbage!,

This review is from: HP OfficeJet 5110 All-in-One Multifunction (Office Product)
Designed to self destruct. These are discontinued now but are still floating around on clearance shelves. Stay away!
Even when it worked it made terrible clicking/popping noises that should not come from a printer. Output was "ok" but it jammed all the time. It HATES envelopes, don't bother. Very cheaply made and it just barely made it through hp's 1 year warranty before it up and died. With $50 worth of new ink cart's in it I might add. No more HP for me! In the trash it went.

Carriage Jam Hell,
By Redwood Tree "Sequoia Sempervirens" (Seattle, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HP OfficeJet 5110 All-in-One Multifunction (Office Product)
Do a web search for carriage jam + HP 5110 and you will find hundreds of annoyed users whose printers have died after a year or so. It's a real shame, because this machine worked well when it worked. It is noisy, it did jam and the software was a bit clunky, but overall it was okay for its price.
I don't want to contribute to land fill by junking this thing, but HP refuses to help so what else is there to do? I'm ashamed to throw away something like this and I'm stuck with four unused cartidges which means if I don't buy another compatible HP I will have wasted hundreds of dollars in unused ink. What a shame.

It's Nice...Until It Breaks Within a Year,
This review is from: HP OfficeJet 5110 All-in-One Multifunction (Office Product)
I found that this model met a lot of my needs, and I really liked it at first. Less than a year later, however, the cartridge jammed to the right of the machine and quit working. We had a warranty at that time, so we turned it in and ended up with a refurbished one. Now it is less than a year later and the machine has the same problem with the cartridge stopping on the right. I am a home school mother, and it is important for me to print papers up on demand. It is a very big inconvenience for me to lose a printer and not be able to print work out. The last HP printer we had did not do this in all of the years we had it. I am very disappointed in this printer and would think that HP would have fixed this problem long ago. I wonder if I will even get a credit toward another printer for all of this inconvenience, but honestly I doubt it. I think I will be looking into a different brand of printer for my next purchase.

HP OfficeJet 5110 failed around 6 months of light use.,
This review is from: HP OfficeJet 5110 All-in-One Multifunction (Office Product)
I used this HP OfficeJet 5110xi all-in-one very lightly for around 6 months and it failed and discontinue to function. Most of what I did was just making copies, probaby around 20 to 30 copies during the 6 months period, I only turned on when I use it and turned off afterward. The problem is that, one nice day when I turned it on to make a copy, the digital panel displayed the message "Open door, carriage jam", from then on, this Hp OfficeJet unit is no longer usable. What a waste of money $200 for less 6 months of use. I bought laserjet IIIp in 92 and it is still working fine. Now, I no longer believe HP printer products are as reliable as its past products, and the quality seems no longer important characteristics of their products.

I loved it & after it died they replaced it for free,

This review is from: HP OfficeJet 5110 All-in-One Multifunction (Office Product)
HP sent us this all in one after our traditional HP Fax died in its 11th month. I'm sure it was a refurbrished but it worked perfect for my small business for 18 months. It got the same problems others have mentioned with the carriage jam message. And HP is replacing it again with an upgrade to a bigger machine for free again. I've got nothing to complain about if the one I bought in 2002 that only faxed in black & white keeps getting replaced with upgrades for free! My family will only by Hewlett Packard because of this great customer service.

Good Product, but Installation was God Awful...,
By "coltonp" (Arlington, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HP OfficeJet 5110 All-in-One Multifunction (Office Product)
I am a loyal user of HP products and I have found the 5110 to be a great product. However, I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the god-awful software installation... the installation failed 4 times and I was finally successful on the fifth try. This was going to be the last attempt before searching their support site or, [deep breath], I succumbed to calling customer support.I decided to try installing the software completely without connecting the unit first by checking the box for this option on the 4th and 5th (successful) tries and suggest everyone else do this as well. After that initial frustration, the unit has been great. All the functionality works great as I would expect from an HP product. And, the printer is quieter than many other deskjets I have seen. My only "worry" is the flimsiness of the printer cartridge door. I was afraid to pull on it too hard.

Noisy but nice,

Generally the HP Officejet 5110 is a good printer, but it's very noisy. I'm not surprised that the 6110 was released quickly. I'm sure it's a lot quieter.
