About 2/3 of the reviews I saw on amazon were very complimentary, but I was reluctant to purchase the hp 7210 after seeing some negative reviews about installation, software, etc. Luckily, I saw a pc world review which rated this product as the finest in this price range. They were right (at least for someone with a two year old DELL Dimension with Windows XP and all of the recent OS updates).Amazing copy quality, great color copying and scanning, installation took about an hour and was easy (I don't fax much, so I don't feel qualified to comment on this part). I highly recommend this all-in-one product for home and small office use.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HP OfficeJet 7210 All-in-One Printer, Fax, Scanner, Copier (Office Product)
We had the HP 6210 for about a year. I decided to get a second printer in the house and after reading reviews on Amazon bought the HP 7210. I am SO happy with this printer. The installation went smoothly ( I followed all the directions exactly ) and I found the installation to be more streamlined than previous years. These are the reasons this printer is much better than the HP6210: 1) It's visibly faster. 2) You can stack more paper in the printer so it doesn't run out as often. 3) It's quieter. With the HP6210, after about a year, it wasn't grabbing the paper properly for faxes. That was another reason I decided to purchase a different model this time. I was so happy with this printer and the price ($249.00) that I bought two more for my high school aged children. For that price, they can have their own printer now and have a printer to take to college.

This printer is fast and convenient. I can fax, copy, scan, and print on the same machine. I like the fact that I don't need to turn on my PC to fax or copy. I can even send double-sided documents through the paper feeder. Printing double-sided documents is also a breeze.Although, I still don't know how much the ink will cost.

I've been using the 7210 for the last 3 months. Scanner, FAX, Copier and printer functions have been reliable and of good quality. I use XP and the software interface is not the top of the line package..I often use a third party graphic program to scan images..the default is slower and not as intuitive.Overall, the 7210 is a good workhorse that quietly supports general office needs. Why it's not a '5'. Expensive ink replacement Software for scans only rates a '3' Okikidz

This is my third HP Inkjet in about 15 years. They all printed and lasted very nicely and the 7210 is a great replacement for the 8 yr old G55xi I had. But like every one of these printers, the install software was poor. The one on the HP 7210 install disk is the worst yet. On XP Pro it hung up 6 times (add Additional Features) was the last prompt I saw - never got a clean install.MY RECOMMENDATION: GO TO THE HP SUPPORT WEBSITE AND DOWNLOAD THE LASTEST DRIVER. ONLY INSTALL THE BASIC DRIVER AND LET XP DO THE REST. THIS WORKED FLAWLESSLY AND WORKED THE FIRST TIME!!!! Still a great printer. Would be a 5 and maybe will be if HP ever figures out how to write desktop software.

Update: Glitches are a stopper; print basics are fine,

I've owned the HP OfficeJet 7210 for about two months now. Print quality is excellent, speed more than acceptable, ease of installation and use OK. Faxing and copying are fine.I have had problems, however... After the unit repeatedly disappeared from the Windows XP network here at home, I finally gave up on that and connected the printer via USB 2 (nice flexibility, that). The USB hookup has had problems as well: the unit needs to be restarted weekly so my nine-month-old computer can see it again. The software is another problem. It's far too much of a good (actually, mediocre) thing. I'd prefer a simple print driver but HP doesn't seem to give a way to specify just that. The entire software packge is a performance boat anchor. If you buy the unit, try to intall the minimal software that works for you. Finally, I've experienced increasing paper jams. All in all, I'd probably look elsewhere for my next all-in-one unit.

I wanted to stick with HP after much prior success with HP printers. The 7210 did not disappoint. I like that HP still gives you the choice of integrated print heads with the ink catridges. You can use a few different number HP cartridges with this unit. Use the 99 tricolor over the 97, it has more ink for about the same price. Several people have made an issue of the software - I had not problems. You need to follow the directions if you are using a USB connection. I suspect some users connected the USB cable too soon and had problems with the install. All features work flawlessly. An excellent all-in-one unit and especially for the price.

Great for home with a shared network.,

I recently purchased this printer for use at my home, where we have a couple of computers on a a shared high speed internet connection through a cable/DSL router. In the past I had utilized the printer sharing functionality within Windows and connected the printer to one of the machines, which works OK, unless you 1) have a problem with the computer the printer is hooked up to or 2) actually want to maybe turn the computer off from time to time. The fact that this printer has an ethernet port makes it perfect for any home or small office with multiple computers. The interface makes it easy to send scans, camera images, etc. to any machine on the network (they're listed by name and displayed when you request one of those operations be performed), and the documentation is thorough and easy to follow.Note that receiving incoming faxes can be a pain if you don't have a seperate fax line, but that's a problem with any fax machine.

Proceed with caution,

I recently upgraded from the 7110 which I was satisfied with. However it only lasted a total of two years before dieing. I do quite a bit of color printing. If you do as well I recommend that you select another printer. The ink cartridges on this printer are very small. HP has ripped us off by using a smaller ink cartridge and charging a higher list price. So you get both the inconvenience of needing to replace your cartridges more often and paying OUTRAGEOUS prices for the tiny cartridges.

Great Printer: Windows 98 - DON'T DO IT,
By
This review is from: HP OfficeJet 7210 All-in-One Printer, Fax, Scanner, Copier (Office Product)
I bought this printer after a lot of research. I don't regret the purchase. The machine itself is wonderful...robust, fast, easy to use, off or online. However, if you plan to use this on an older computer running windows 98...forget it. I spent 5 hours with HP tech support trying to install it. In the end, we were able to install only the printer driver and none of the other software that comes with the machine. I applaud HP's tech support. I got through within 2 minutes every time. They were very polite and helpful and stayed with me for a very long time. It really shouldn't be that hard though.Having said that, I also installed it on a new notebook running XP and the full package installed quickly and flawlessly, making contact with the printer through my home wireless network. Tech support told me that you must have service pack 2 installed or else you will have trouble. You must also have your firewall off or set to low security levels. Though I had mine on and there were no problems. |
