The ink cartridges are expensive and very very small.
Kindle Customer
If you run out of any color ink cartridge, the printer will not let you print ANYTHING - even in grayscale - until you replace the color ink cartridge.

At first printing a simple page would take 5 minutes as the machine made all sorts of noises before it deiced after making all sorts of noises.

I purchased this HP because the last printer I owned was an HP and worked great for years. This 6100 HP goes through its ink cartridges practically weekly. I'm not printing photos or anything crazy. Also when I put in a new cartridge it will not print correctly until I run the clean print cartridges feature a couple times which is another horrible waste of ink. The ink cartridges are expensive and very very small. What you saved on this printer you will spend exponentially on print cartridges. It's the worst printer I have ever owned. Shame on HP for this product, I expect a lot better from this company.

HP Officejet 6100 e-Printer Wireless Color Printer

I bought the printer to provide wireless printing for notebooks and tablets. It sometimes works as long as two days. Usually only one. Then the software has to be removed and resinstalled. Then it works again for a short time. I finally gave up and only use it on USB as a wired printer. After it prints it sits there for three minutes (measured) and clunks and chugs for no apparent reason. Our Brother wireless laser printer works fine. Sadly, HP support was no help. All of our other wireless devices work fine. I'm in IT and work with all kinds of computer equipment and nothing I've used is as bad as this printer is. It's our last HP product.

I would give it negative stars if I could.

1 Year Update
Just more bad news. No more HP support without me paying them to fix their problem. It still only works on USB, never wireless. It still chugs away for minutes(!) when turned on or off. It uses phenomenal amounts of ink and I could not get these cartridges refilled. If you want an expensive pain-in-the-derrier, get this printer.

This printer is fantastic. When I am in a crunch and need to print a report up for a meeting like 10 minutes ago it says "hey. take a minute. Hell take 10. You deserve it. I will just take my time to print this up for you while you have some coffee, make a phone call, check your email, water some plants, paint the house, have a manicure and go on vacation. When you come back from the beach - that's when I will print your report." I guess I really didn't need to go to that meeting anyway.
The chorus of clanks and whirrs that accompany printing are just music to my ears. And don't get me started on the Officejets sense of humor! Every time it starts clanking and I think I am finally getting my report - PSYCHE! hahaha. Oh, Officejet you trick me every time. Fool me 463 times shame on me!
I think my favorite part may be the fact that this printer is always thinking of the little details. Even if your report needs to be printed in black and white the Officejet will refuse to print if any of the other colors is empty. See OJ6100 is always looking out for you. And what better way to have your back than to refuse print using inferior black ink when you could have a report printed with subtle tints of cyan and magenta.

Besides the job it does printing, the Officejet can be used as a door stop, a paperweight, home base, a potato masher, a step stool and a cutting board.

I ordered this printer a month or two ago and wanted to wait a bit before I reviewed it. It worked perfectly out-of-the box and took less that 15 min to get set up on my wireless network. Now I enjoy printing from my desktop, iPads, and even using Google Cloud Printing. My only knock is that the ink cartridges that come with the product run out quickly but I think they only send you demo ones to cut down on cost. If you are looking for a new printer and want wireless from multiple platforms, this is the way to go!

I purchased this printer because I wanted a simple device that did one function well. First off, the printer for being solely a printer is enormous. After setting it up it will inundate your computer with random unnecessary shortcuts on the desktop and a myriad of warnings leading you to the HP website. The printer is incredibly loud making an enormous racket before every print. The wireless connection also drops fairly regular, so you will have to plug it in if you don't want to wait till it decides to start working again.

The most perplexing aspect of this printer is by far the ink situation. I only the I print are invoices in "black-ink only" mode, However, the printer has never printed exclusively in black ink and uses all of the colors to print black. The result is that the color runs out very quickly with theoretically having never used it. And once it's gone, the printer will refuse to print using the black ink cartridge. Which means very expensive emergency trips to the office supply store.

Certainly wish all the bad reviews for this thing were on Amazon when I made my purchase. Steer very clear of this giant headache.

Having used HP printers for my work and for my personal use for many years, I was pretty satisfied with them except for a few quirks here and there. Until now. I purchased this printer for casual use so it doesn't get used too often. Yesterday I was finally fed up with this piece of junk. To start with, every time it prints, it feels it necessary to print out an alignment and color accuracy page, draining my ink cartridges big time. I have tried everything to get the printer to stop printing these pages, to no avail. The printer uses an extraordinary amount of ink which has cost me a fortune (much worse than other HP printers). Finally, it has a mind of its own as to when it wants to print. Nothing is unplugged, all programs are set up properly, it just seems to print when it feels like it. I'm so fed up with this printer, it's going in the trash today. Needless to say, no more HP printers for me!
