1.0 out of 5 stars Worst All-In-One Ever, October 30, 2003

This review is from: HP Officejet 7110 All-in-One Multifunction (Office Product)
I purchased this machine in August along with an overnight replacement warranty (thank goodness). Since August I have had 3 different machines. Each one malfunctioned. (1) The automatic feeder did not work properly and the paper jammed. HP replaced the machine. (2) The print head connection was not making contact and the machine would not detect the print cartridges. HP replaced that machine. (3) It would only print in red and blue because the print cartridges were improperly distribting the ink. In addition, each time I replaced the machine I had to uninstall and reinstall the software, which should not have been necessary. Not to mention the hours spent on the phone with HP service and my IT person trying to get the machines to function properly. In one week I had two replacements. It is also noisy and slow. I begged my salesperson to take it back, which he did and I was happy to see it go.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it if you have more sophisticated graphics needs, September 3, 2003

This review is from: HP Officejet 7110 All-in-One Multifunction (Office Product)
Here's what's good about this machine: easy to set up, legal-sized flatbed scanner, nice LCD display, great fax operation.

Here's what's not so good: not actually that fast, verrrrry noisy and can shake your entire desk, and, most importantly, the scanner is NOT COMPATIBLE WITH ADOBE PHOTOSHOP. If you use this program, this scanner is completely useless. I wish I'd known that before I bought it and set it up. Luckily, the store I bought it from had a 14 day return policy. I am now happily using a Canon Multipass MP730 (same price) with much better results, including much better printing quality.

Get it out the box follow a few simple instructions and you have a full suite of office machines up and running in minutes and in one unit. Print quality is every bit as good as photo printing machines and pretty fast. Scan and copy images are very sharp, the scan runs with the supplied software, Windows XP and my MGI photosuite without a hitch. The fax capability is excellent with a 100 page memory and the capability to work from the PC, Flatbed or Sheetfeed as you wish. I particularly like the stand alone capability for faxing and the Flatbed being big enough to handle legal size documents.

My only argument with the maufacturers claims is with the word compact package. While certainly smaller than the components parts represented by individual machines this is a big and heavy all in one machine. Having said that it feels far more solid and durable than many competing units, in the long run that should be a plus if you are buying the unit for a business.

Several reviewers have complained about shake and noise from the 7110, I have not experienced this at all, maybe the stability of the platform it is placed on affects vibration and noise.

All in all I could not be happier with my 7110, if you have a small business it is a great buy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Such poor quality, March 29, 2005
This review is from: HP Officejet 7110 All-in-One Multifunction (Office Product)
Purchased 2 of these, for business use and deployment into our CEO's home/office environment, and all looked fined until it came time to test the scanning function and in particular from the ADF which is where the problems started.

The "Director" software just wouldn't work, multiple pages would scan ok as far as previewing them but come the stage you try to save them or send them to Word, up pops an error indicating you need to reinstall the scanning software due to a library not being found.

Using the "Scan to" function on the front panel of the device seemed to fair a little better but soon discovered, on a multiple page scan to Word, only the first page scanned fully and each subsequent page was only partially scanned with the results nicely overlaid on a single page in word just to add to add to the problem.

I attempted to get these issues resolved via emailing HP support over the next two days which is better than hanging on the phone as experienced my many reviewers I guess but the end result was still the same...i.e. no resolution. The support followed the lines of re-installing the software, cleaning out the registry, loading the previous version of the software from the website, updating the print-head firmware (an odd one to fix a scanning issue I know) etc

The machines/software were tested on 2 x WinXP and 1 Win2k platforms and in all cases had the same problems with the scanning function.

All its other functions appeared to be ok but given the problems had these units returned as being not fit for use. Given the other problems people have experienced with different aspects of these machines returning them seems a very wise move.

The other offerings in the HP Multifunction arena also appear to be plagued with problems so be very careful when looking at HP for your chosen solution especially in the inkjet world.

I've since gone for the slightly more expensive Canon MP780 which so far does exactly what you'd expect of these machines and does it very well, no installation issues, software provided is streets ahead of the poor effort released by HP.

So, potentially a good machine at a good price let down by substandard software which just didn't work for me and couldn't be fixed by HP support.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice, within reason, September 14, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HP Officejet 7110 All-in-One Multifunction (Office Product)
upgraded from an Officejet K80 because I often need to photocopy tiny things such as receipts, and the price for the 7110 on Amazon is really good. If I were a little more motivated, I might return this printer, as it does indeed shake like a jet taking off, but the print/copy quality is excellent, it accepts just about any size paper you will work with in a regular office, and so I'll live with it as it is. The fax function is just fine; I wish these printer manufacturers would include a feature called "no incoming fax," which describes my office (I receive fax by e-mail, getting around the whole second-line issue very nimbly), but it's easy enough to outfox incoming fax by setting it to ring sounds your phone doesn't make. IThe scanning function is so-so, but then, that's an auxiliary function for me, so it's more than good enough.

HP, please make the "Enter" button another color and shape. It's mixed in with many other functions (at least on the K80 it was at the end of a row of buttons), and it's really hard to see.

Be warned: this is a VERY large machine. I put it on its own table where it can shimmy through its print jobs without making my teeth chatter.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very impressive, August 7, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: HP Officejet 7110 All-in-One Multifunction (Office Product)
I got this all-in-one more for its text printing, scanning, copying and faxing capabilities. So I really did not expect that much from its photo printing capabilities. (I don't even have a digital camera.) I must say that after dabbling in some photo printing from some pictures I scanned and from some picture files I have been emailed I am very impressed. The pictures are very life-like and vivid. The text printing even at draft mode is very acceptable. The unit is very easy to set up as well. The automatic document feeder is a great convenience. All-in-all, this all-in-one has been terrific.

I have only had it for a few days so I cannot give it a 5 star rating yet. So far my only criticism of it is that it is rather noisy and busy doing stuff even while it is not in use.

1.0 out of 5 stars Scanner failure, March 14, 2005
This review is from: HP Officejet 7110 All-in-One Multifunction (Office Product)
We bought two of these, they are both gathering dust as they both have "Scanner failure" at power on. Even if we don't want to use the scanner we can't print.

I have requested our IT department to avoid HP products where possible as there was no support, and a great raft of stuff on the web about this problem, but no easy solution.

The product is quite useless to us.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy!, February 1, 2005

This review is from: HP Officejet 7110 All-in-One Multifunction (Office Product)
This machine was issued to me by my company for use at home. I wish I could take it back, but unfortunately I have no choice.

first, this printer uses A LOT of ink. It also shakes wildly when it prints - almost I would invision a cartoon printer to print.

The fax machine has no quickscan feature and the autofeeder has to be babysat each and every fax.

The scanner is alright, but the software is not too user friendly.

Allaround, there are much better products out there. If your company doesn't decide for you, stay away from this one!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy HP, December 18, 2004
This review is from: HP Officejet 7110 All-in-One Multifunction (Office Product)
This all in one in particular was a complete disaster. Form the get go I had problems with it. If the power fails, you have to reboot the machine, then it does an ink test when you reboot it. I could not find an option to turn this off. If you run out of color, you can't print black and white, not even if you set the print to grayscale. Don't try tech support, you can't understand them, they can't understand you, when the language barrier is finally cleared enough for you to start troubleshooting, they don't know what the problem is or it is your PC's fault. After 14 months, it finally died on me. Oddly enough when the warranty had just run out. A great excuse to purchase a new one. I believe HP is running a scam on these ink cartridges. They are the most expensive and last the least amount of time. I don't know where all of this ink goes, but it makes my wallet shrink far too often. I now have a Lexmark all in one and it seems like the ink has already lasted twice as long and I still have about 1/3 of my ink left!!! No more headaches and I don't need to keep a bunch of spare ink catridges.

1.0 out of 5 stars don't buy this, December 28, 2005
This review is from: HP Officejet 7110 All-in-One Multifunction (Office Product)
fter less than one year the copy function of this printer stopped working. When trying to copy we get a scanner error message. We tried to contact HP about the problem but were 4 days out of warrenty. After several minutes with an online rep we were finally told that they would give us a 15% discount on a new one. Our print repair center told us that if the printer was not on warrenty they could not even order parts for it and it was expected to be disposable. We are disgusted by the company policy. We refuse to by another HP product. Stay away from this item and this company.
