This is a great little printer. First page out in 7-8 seconds, and after that a page every two seconds. It is loud, but only while printing. After that a fan runs for about 30 seconds and then shuts down (I returned a Brother 2170 because the fan would run for 15-30 minutes after printing a single page). Installation was a snap. The printer also comes with a regular toner cartridge rather than a "starter" cartridge. Highly recommended.

Yo, it has a quiet mode setting!,

I bought this printer to replace the only printer I've ever owned - my HP Laserjet 4L, which I bought 15 years ago next month. I am still in deep mourning, and I would not have replaced it even now except that I was getting tired of not being able to print legible Mapquest and Google maps. So of course I stuck with HP. Major product loyalty here. Every office I've ever worked in has primarily used HPs because we regretted it if we strayed too far from the mother ship.
I've had this for about six weeks now, and I like it just fine. It was easy to set up and the print quality is excellent (which, after all, is the big enchilada). It will also manually duplex, which is a feature I wanted this time and caused me to eliminate some other printers from the competition. The footprint is actually about the same as my lil' 4L's, but it's so much taller it looks gigantic, which is a drawback. I had read the reviews here before purchasing, many of which comment on how noisy it is. That's true, but I found when going through the settings on the installation CD that it has a quiet mode, which turns out to be substantially less noisy than the regular mode. It does slow the print speed down slightly, but one could always change the setting for a big job and go take the dog for a walk. The only reason I'm giving this a 4 instead of a five is that it will be a while before I can fully evaluate how well the toner cartridges do. Otherwise, if I can't keep my Laserjet 4L, I'll take this one.

Horrible printer. Consant lockups and loss of connectivity. Buyer Beware.,
This review is from: HP P2035N LaserJet Printer Monochrome (Office Product)
If I could give this printer a zero star rating, I would.
This printer suffers from the same problems that plagued the last series of printers. The previous model was the P2015dn that would lose its web interface and network settings randomly. A power cycle would usually bring the printers back online. We have had this printer in service for 5 days. In the 5 days, it went offline/locked up 5 times. Each time, the printer locked up completely. It could not be printed to, the web interface was not accessible, it could not be pinged and dropped completely off the network. It could not even be seen in the router as an active client. The first lockup started at the 36 hour mark, then around 21 hours, and again around 20 hours and then the final straw was twice in the same day within 8 hours. Each time, power cycling the printer brought it up. This is not acceptable for a network printer. You should not have to power cycle it to make sure the printer is online and your print job will go through. A call to HP was useless, and they denied any problems. Do a quick google search and this problem is all over the HP tech support forums. This problem affects all of the "P" and "CP" series printers. HP has not made a reliable business class printers since the 1320n back when the printers were still made in japan. They have now switched to a Chinese manufacturer for their printers. Stay away.

I was a little bit concerned about the purchase after reading a few comments regarding noise and delay in output. I have owned several HP laserjet printers over the last 30 years (starting with HP Laser jet II series, 4, 4 plus, 5, 5P, 6 and 6P, 6210 etc). This one is the best, faster than all the older ones. Actually, it is a lot quieter than 4, 5 or 6 series. After the job is done, it goes almost completely quiet. There is a few seconds lag when the print command is sent over the network, but that is natural because of the speed of the network itself. I was able to install the printer over my home network in less than a minute. The output quality is better than most other printers I have used in the past. There is a potential for concern regarding the toner cost, as it is expensive, and I do not yet know how many pages I will get out of a fresh toner. All in all, a great printer at this price. I had to pay two to three times as much for other HP laserjets, in the past.
Added 9/23/09: As I feared, the toner that came with the printer did not even last 200 pages. That makes the cost per printed page to almost 40 cents per page. I am quite disappointed with that. I will ask Amazon to replace the toner cartridge for me. Hopefully, they will do so. Added 7/1/2011 - I just bought another P2035N today. I installed it on Win XP computer. When I tried to print it using my laptop that has Win 7 (64 Bit), the printer kept on printing and printing the same page over an over again. I was really mad at HP and Microsoft for not fixing this issue even after 3 years of knowing about it. Anyway, to get around the problem, I removed the default driver and installed HP Laser Jet Family PCL5 driver. It has resolved the repeated printing problem. I like the printer, as I have now purchased 3 of them, but hate HP and MSFT for being so inefficient and totally uncaring about the customer.

Printer Cartridges Only Last One Month and Are Expensive,
This review is from: HP P2035N LaserJet Printer Monochrome (Office Product)
I have used various HP printers in my law office for over twenty years, and until now I was always satisfied. I bought this P2035N on 8/9/2010 because of its speed, and it is quick.
The major (and unforgivable) drawback is the cost and lifespan of the consumable ink cartridge (the P2035N only uses the HP 05A cartridge, and NOT the HP 05X high capacity cartridge). The HP 05A cartridge costs about $90, and is rated at 2,300 pages (about 4 cents per page). The first new cartridge lasted thirty days. The second one only lasted twenty days. The HP 05X (high capacity) cartridge costs about $165 and is rated at 6,500 pages (2.5 cents per page); however, the P2035N printer cannot use the 05X cartridge. By comparison, my former HP P2015d printer could use the HP 53X (extended use) cartridge (costs $165, rated at 7,000 pages), which means that it costs about 2.4 cents per page, and it would last me about 3 months. Even the HP 53A cartridge (costs $90, rated at 3,000 pages) costs about 3 cents per page. Based on the above experience, here is my bottom line: Don't buy this printer. To print 2,300 pages per month costs about $90 on the P2035n, but would only cost about $57 if it could use the high capacity 05X cartridge. That means it costs me almost $400 more per year (which is $100 more than I paid for the printer itself). I've thought about just buying the HP 2055n, because it's just as fast and it can use the 05X cartridge; but I hear reports that the P2055n is horribly slow at printing PDF documents (and I now scan all of my files into PDF formats).

This is a good basic printer.
Run it in quiet mode if you are in the same room; it is noisy otherwise. My only complaint is that it comes with a cheap toner cartridge instead of the normal one.

This printer is sufficient for the price and pages print quickly. However, its very loud (a little like a jet engine taking off) and it takes 30 seconds or longer for it to register that a print job has been sent to it.

Gotta love it!,

This printer replaces a HP 2100M that doesn't work well with the newer computers without those humongous parallel/serial port cables. I have always loved the trouble-free service the 2100 has given me and will some day figure out how to make my 2100 "play well' with the more modern computers.
The P2035N was a snap to set up even though the directions supplied were at best minimal. The easy to follow directions were on the supplied CD, though, so I had it up and running in about 20 minutes. Most people have said how loud this printer is, and won't disagree. However, several have said it has a quiet mode which cuts the decibles to about half and only slows down the printing minimally. I found it quite easy to network all my home computers to this printer. I thought it would be a magicical, mystical experience but it took a bit of thinking on my part. I used the install disk on each computer I wanted to network and they all printed to it with no difficulty at all. I'm not a networking genius but it worked perfectly, the first time. Print quality is excellent! Very crisp and very fast. I like the fact the paper tray holds about 250 sheets. I don't expect to have to refill it often. I was told mine has a 'starter' cartridge that will print maybe 800 copies. I did some shopping online and ordered a replacement, compatible with this printer, for just $35. An OEM HP cartridge is about $90, so it was a no brainer what to order. Since a regular cartridge will print over 3000 pages, I figure it's a big savings over the cost of ink for a regular ink jet printer. Ink jet copy smears while laser doesn't- a definate plus for me. Since I've always had exceptional luck with HP products, I don't hesitate in recommending this printer. There's a nice discount at some office supply stores plus HP has a promotion of an additional $50 off if you return any printer when buing this one. So, the price is great, the printer works beautifully, and life is good. Drop what you're doing and get one of these just as soon as you can!

Wow, it's pretty loud. Also, the first page comes out speedy-fast, and every additional page comes out after about a 12-second delay. It can get a little frustrating waiting for pages 2+.
Quality of the print is good. My only other issue has been with the toner - I've replaced it twice in four months, with only light to moderate printing use, and three days after a brand new replacement, the toner light is back on. I have a call into the company, it may be faulty.

I bought this printer to replace a Canon multi-function laser, mostly for my wife. So far, it has proven to be a reliable workhorse. While the Canon would require a reset (power cycle) on every 3rd or 4th print job, this HP has never yet needed a reset. The same types of print jobs were being handled by each printer - MS Office docs, PDF files, and Web pages, for the most part, along with occasional check from QuickBooks. The Canon would have a problem anytime the print area of a doc exceeded the printer's capabilities (e.g., less than 1/2 inch margins). The HP takes those kinds of challenges in stride. No one makes better Windows print drivers than HP. Since the Canon was connected to our wireless network through a print server, troubleshooting was always complicated. With the HP connected directly to the wired network, not only does it start printing faster, but it has yet to lose a print job. As the lead tech support specialist for my house, I truly appreciate how resilient this printer is in dealing with whatever is sent to it, as well as how reliably it prints. It has made my life quite a bit simpler. My wife has come to me and said, "Have I told you how much I love this printer?" Setup was a breeze and was completed in 10 minutes on multiple computers. I've found (and ordered on Amazon) replacement knock-off cartridges for about $25, so consumable costs are low. As has been noted in other reviews, the printer is loud when operating (especially the first page - which prints incredibly fast), but goes back to sleep in 30 seconds or so. I've solved the noise problem by locating the printer in a credenza with doors. The sleep feature is great, since it feels like it uses less power than the Canon. If you are looking for a super-compatible, networked laser printer, you can't go wrong with the P2035N.
