4.0 out of 5 stars Artsy does deliver!
Basically the HP Pavilion Artist Ed. does live up to its standards. I tried this by opening several applications such as the webcam, bluetooth, browser, and office doc. all at the same time and didn't experience any bugs or glitches. Only problem was when I installed silverlight or a particular application with an add-on (not so sure), my IE browser started to crash again...

This review is from: HP Pavilion Artist Edition DV2890NR 14.1-inch Laptop (Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) (Personal Computers)
Basically the HP Pavilion Artist Ed. does live up to its standards. I tried this by opening several applications such as the webcam, bluetooth, browser, and office doc. all at the same time and didn't experience any bugs or glitches. Only problem was when I installed silverlight or a particular application with an add-on (not so sure), my IE browser started to crash again and again everytime I'd try to exit/close it. Also, I was wondering why it didn't come with a 60-day trial version of Microsoft Office even though it was claimed to come as part of the package??? I had to then install it by myself through a microsoft website... Kinda hassle don't ya think? Overall, I'd have to say it packs a punch for it's price and is travel friendly since it doesn't overheat quickly or weigh much.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice laptop..., July 4, 2008

This review is from: HP Pavilion Artist Edition DV2890NR 14.1-inch Laptop (Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) (Personal Computers)
The laptop is very powerful and handles Vista with no issues. The wireless N works great! 130 Mbps with full signal ;)
The colors outside are Ok, I got used to them after a while, but the plastic shiny material is a fingerprints magnet. I still don't understand why they keep making the laptops like this.
I was expecting better battery life and less weight. I'm kind of disappointed on these items.
HDMI port works fine. Speakers are fine. It'd be nice to have a 3rd USB port instead of the Modem port (who needs it?)
Anyway, for U$S 900 I'm happy with the HP Artist Edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great laptop and service from Amazon, August 3, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HP Pavilion Artist Edition DV2890NR 14.1-inch Laptop (Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) (Personal Computers)
I ordered this laptop with 2 day delivery and the delivery was right on time before I had to be out of town and wanted to take the computer with me. I have an HP Pavillion Media Center Desk Top for almost 2 years and have been very happy with it, so it made sense to order another HP when I was searching for a laptop. This laptop was by far the easiest computer to get set up and learn all the new features that I was not familiar with. I also like the Artist version, which stands out when I am out with the laptop -- no chance of someone mistaking it for their's! I am very pleased with my HP laptop, as well as Amazon.com's service. The only reason I am not giving it a 5 star is that the system is a bit slow to boot up -- but from that point on, it works very well.

I was really sad because I only had it for over a year...contacted several computer stores but they told me the same thing: I would have to get a new mother board. Called HP, my warranty is no longer good (they only cover for a year, sneaky bastards). Same thing happen to my bf's HP.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great while it lasted...all 18 months, February 1, 2010

Purchased my artist edition from Amazon in late June/early July of 2008. Laptop was great, with an emphasis on the was. The art design is excellent, and the multimedia features included put even some new laptop releases to shame. With a webcam, built-in bluetooth, HDMI, DVD-burner, and decent enough graphics chip the laptop really delivered. Well, everything but the graphics card, that is. If you'll check the net, you'll soon find that the 8400 series of Nvidea cards is notorious for early failures. So while the hardware is great while it lasts, it's designed to fail, and most likely in far less than 24 months (what i consider a minimum reasonable expectation for a notebook)

1.0 out of 5 stars Video card died after 2 years, February 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HP Pavilion Artist Edition DV2890NR 14.1-inch Laptop (Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) (Personal Computers)
I had just got married the week before, opened up my laptop to download some friends pictures and the screen went into a techni-color rainbow...then it shut off and the display never came back. I did all the diagnostics I could to try to revive it & called upon my HP certified network friend for a glimpse of hope and he told me they are riddled with problems because of the location of the video card, it essentially just melts. And of course you can't just replace the video card, it's integrated into the motherboard so you have to replace the entire motherboard with another faulty designed motherboard. So I researched the product and found there was a recall & start of a class action lawsuit on the majority of these machines...with an AMD processor. Of course mine was Intel. So I called HP hoping they would say, oh, we know it sucks, we'll replace it and it IS part of the recall. In reality, what happened was they said it's NOT part of the recall, you suck and it will be $400. That's when I said HP sucks, I'm buying a Mac. The HP laptop lasted a little over 2 years. Ridiculous, I've had ketchup last longer.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great if you buy a new laptop every year..., April 29, 2010
This review is from: HP Pavilion Artist Edition DV2890NR 14.1-inch Laptop (Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) (Personal Computers)
I admit up front I bought this laptop based on its looks. I was warned that HP have loads of weaknesses, but I was determined. I had an ASUS before which is still in use after 4 years. However, this laptop was just filled with problems from day one. First of all, the mouse pad: often the mouse just started wandering around and I could not control it for several minutes. The keys began sticking and breaking within 5-6 months. Lastly, and most seriously, the hinge broke and over time became worse and worse. I tried to fix it, but after that repair, soon after the whole screen snapped and the laptop was dead. Last time I buy an HP.

1.0 out of 5 stars Another factory defective HP Laptop, April 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Do you want an advice?

Never buy a HP laptop, notebook or netbook. HP is the company with the most units on recall ever (not considering battery recalls).
This laptop as other thousands of HP products has a factory deffect on the processor and video chip cooling and soldering process. The board heats to much and after some time the solder breaks and the entire system fails. Video and LCD goes weird, Wireless stop working, system freazes.

All units have the problem, it is a board design issue. Even if you do the recall, the main board will be replaced with the another one with the same problem.

How long it will take for the problem to appear on your unit will depends on the use. Mine took 2 years (lots of video playback, image editing) even using a cooling table. Other users reported the problems after only 2 or 3 months of use.

Just google for HP recall, HP problem and anything related. There are thousands of customers around the world and HP does nothing to help us.

On the recall page you can notice hundreds of other Laptops series PNs affected.

Besides this, a friend has a brand new dv4000 series that overheats and shutdows after just a phews minuts powered on.

My uncle has a DV9000 series and the LCD has a deffect on the hinge/joint. It just locked after some weeks of use and break. Another recall.

Take this serious advice and do not buy any HP product. Go for Sony Vaio's
