Jmoonmtn,

This review is from: HP Pavilion DV7T 17" Laptop (Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 at 2.4GHz, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, NVIDIA GeForce Go 9200M, Webcam, HDMI, Windows Vista Premium) (Personal Computers)
I have been using the HP DV7T 17" for about a month now and I am very impressed with its performance. The 17" screen is easy to view and very clear. The speed is very nice, and the keybboard has a comfortable feel, plus the mouse pad is the best I have used. On top of all this, it is a very sleek looking laptop. The only downside I can think of is (and I don't think it is much of a downside) is the 64 bit processor causes some problems with older programs and Windows mail. Other than that I am very happy. Jmoonmtn

Can't beat the price for this Laptop,

I accidently ordered this computer thinking that it was a different one. However, after using it for awhile I have come to love this laptop. First off I wanted to say that this machine is very quick as it can play some of the latest games at almost high settings, like Assassins Creed and Burnout Paradise. I am not a big gamer, but there are some games that I play and the games ran smooth and looked very nice on the big screen.I use this machine to do graphic arts like Maya and Photoshop for school, and it has enough ram and speed to run all those programs exceptionally well. Overall this computer is faster than my desktop computer. Another great thing about this machine is that it runs very cool. My older laptop created lots of heat, and this one barely feels hot. Nice if you want to use the laptop on your lap. The keyboard on this laptop is also very nice as it feels sturdy and which makes typing on the the keyboard very easy. There is an on and off button for the touchpad mouse which is super great for anyone who has try typing documents on a laptop and accidently had their palm hit the touchpad and have the mouse cursor change places. Since this laptop comes with built in blue tooth technology I bought myself a blue tooth mouse so I don't even need the wireless doggle in the USB port. Some of the negatives that I have noticed with the laptop has been a lower quality screen. Thought the screen is big, I have noticed that the colors do seem a bit washed out and it has a harder time displaying various degrees of black. Also there is a lot of glare in the screen which makes it hard to see sometimes. However, I will note that these problems are very and might be overlooked to the average user. I have also not really played around with the settings yet to optimize the screen. Fingerprints are a huge problem and will get everywhere. You will constantly need to wipe this computer down, though I do not have a problem with doing that. I give this laptop a five-star rating because I got it off of amazon for $700 and it has been a really fun laptop to use. I highly recommend picking this up if you are looking into a new laptop.

Purchased additional 3 year support, paid over $349. called and tried to get support from HP support but their support system is really bad.I use HP 2710m external monitor. when I connect with HDMI cable, the external HP monitor does not show the whole screen, it cuts off half an inch on each side of the screen. when I connect with VGA, it works fine. Also I have Sony laptop, when I connect with sony laptop to the same external monitor via HDMI, everything works fine. so the problem wit the HP laptop that it does not work well with external monitors. I contacted HP Support team by phone, they did not know what to do, wasted over 2 hours. they said somebody call me within 24 hours but never did. I called back after waiting two weeks, wasted another two hours on the phone with zero support. Even though I paid $349 HP Home Care, HP did not provide the support. I think their support system is terribly bad.

I purchased an HP dv7t t6500 a year and quarter ago. I have always had Dell Desktops but decided on this HP laptop based on my previous work history at Bell Labs using quality HP equipment. When this computer worked, it ran great but the memory went bad every 5 to 6 months! The first time (5 month)s I had to work through 3 days of service calls for them to take it back to repair even though it was obvious what was wrong. After replacing the memory it lasted another 5 months before it happened again! At this time they should have checked overheating and the motherboard but they just replaced the memory again. The third and last time I was out of warranty with HP but had an extended credit card warranty. This time the Geek Squad at Best Buy determined that it was indeed the motherboard (probably the memory sockets) and not just bad memory. It cost more that the $690 purchase price to repair so I got a refund from the credit card warranty extentsion. This HP was a complete lemon and service was terrible making you jump through hoops to fix it and then not fixing the problem. HP has had many problems with their motherboards. My advice is to go get a Dell!!!!

This machine is an excellent machine in many ways. The keyboard has a great feel, the screen is large and bright, and moving between apps is very fast. I was very very happy with it until I realized that I cannot sync my iphone (using itunes) on it. There seems to be a known problem with laptops containing the Intel PM55 or p55 chipsets, which is inside this latop. Various forums are discussing this problem. There is an HP forum with the name "dv7-3085dx Bios updates" at:[...] An Apple forum discussing the issue across a broad range of pcs, (HP comments around page 15 of the forum) is at: [...] HP's tech support seems unwilling to escalate the issue and as of now there is no known fix on the HP dv7t or HP dv8t. So while I would have otherwise given this laptop a great rating, due to this issue and HP's lack of support, I unfortunately have to give it a very low rating. Had I known about this problem before purchasing this PC, I probably would not have purchased it. Eventually it will probably get solved (likely a bios update is needed), but I and many others have already put in many hours of legwork trying to get support from HP, and at this point are fairly frustrated.

HP bad customer service,

I do not have this particular model of HP laptop, but the HP company does not stand behind their product. If you look on the HP message boards you will find many reviews/complaints about laptops made in the last 3 years with motherboard failure 2-3 years after purchasing. HP refuses to do anything for their customers except charge them $249.00 to replace the motherboard. At that price the laptop becomes a throw away item. Unacceptable. Do your research.
