3.0 out of 5 stars WAS state of the art in 2005
I had this computer for over 4 years now, the longest time I have owned a PC. It was a medium priced PC back in 2005. Time for an upgrade in 2009. My next PC will have Windows 7 OS, more RAM and a bigger hard drive and a better graphics card. Its a good PC for a youngster or someone who is buying lowbuck. Don't get me wrong- its a pretty fast computer, I have not had any...

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good mid-range computer, September 14, 2006
This review is from: HP Pavilion Media Center a1430n Desktop PC (AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 3800+, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, LightScribe Double Layer DVD+/-R/RW Drive) (Personal Computers)
This computer works very well for what it is. Not the fastest or most powerful computer that exists, but 64-bit dual core, 1gb ram, and a nicely sized hard drive are nothing to scoff at.

Know that upgrade options are limited. I added another gig of ram, another HDD, another cd-rom, and a PCIe video card, that's about the extent of what can be done. Still, for the price, this thing's phenomenal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good deal, July 18, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

It took amazon only 2 days - on Saturday I ordered and on Monday I laready received computer.
Nice deal for 64x2 & 1GB ram.
Everything works fine so far (I already use it for a month).
Installed additional (generic) memory without any problem.
Just ensure it also PC3200.
In general I don't like Samsung DVD recorders (LightScribe ), so I installed additional one (NEC).
Also added 2 additional IDE HD's.

The minus is that power supply is to small (only 300) and not enought space to add additional disks (I added additional rack from other computer)

REcomended

Good hardware package for price. A step up from bare-bones, this box has everything you need for most uses. it has decent expandability with included PCIE, but I found 300w power supply too weak to run my 7600 GT graphics card. With socket 939 processors dropping in price similar units should be available for under 700 dollars.

The computer is super and was easy to setup. Amazon caused it to be delivered from J&R Music World/Computer World promptly. I have owned HP computers in the past and this one is outstanding so far. It is fast and comes with a lot of software. Based on my experience, I would not hesitate to purchase through Amazon again.

But with Windows7 coming out soon- its time to upgrade from Windows XP.
